That's what I thought. However, the "cart paths" at my course are a combination dirt-sand-roots-rocks. So I choose not to hit my good clubs off from them. I also choose not to take a penalty for hitting onto them, hence the "I don't care about it" club.

To qualify for relief under the rules the "cart path" must be artificially surfaced (asphalt, concrete, gravel, etc.). What you describe is not. But whatever... I don't have to play you in a competition so you do what you like.

I do...Here in the Desert some of us will carry a "Desert club". With lots of desert and gravel, we hit off of gravel more often than other fairways.

Do you have an I don't care about it club? As a higher handicapper, I still blow one into the rough or the woods. The course I play also has some sandy pebbley lies here and there (in and on the edges of fairways). Because I hate moving my ball for any reason other than a truly unplayable lie, & since I had room in the bag to throw in an old club I added my old reliable 3w. When I was playing it, it was one of my favorite clubs.

Dude, that's a great idea! I never thought of it before.

Fairly often, I will play a shot differently than I would like to out of fear of damaging a club. I'm thinking of a really buried lie in the bunker where I would like to swing really hard to gouge the ball out, but I'm afraid it would bend the shaft and I don't want to spend the time and money replacing a shaft for one shot (I once bent a shaft slamming a club into the ground like an idiot and hope to never bend a shaft again)...or a shot where the ball is right in front of a rock etc etc. Usually, I just play these shots delicately to make sure I don't damage the club, but it's a pretty good idea to have an "IDCAI" club for these situations. Problem is, I don't know what club I should take out, since I don't really want to lug 15 clubs around even for casual rounds. Anyway, just thought I'd chime in and say I think this is a pretty neat idea.

I care about all of my clubs, but usually I use whatever I care about least and will still produce effective results.

The idea being that I don't get to take any free cart path drops, so I use the "I don't care about it" club.

Nope. I carry clubs i'm going to use. I like them all equally.

I once dinged up two 8 irons from two different sets in the same week. I hit an underground rock both times. 2 different courses. Two nice big sole gouges.
