How accurate is that video screen at golf galaxy?

Well this is definitely not too encouraging... I'm looking at buying my first set of clubs at GolfTown soon, so I don't really have any irons to compare them with (been renting/borrowing clubs and won't be able to have any when I go to the store). Comparing clubs in the store to each other on the screen, does that work (as far as how straight and far the shots go), or is that totally bogus too...?

As long as you're trying different clubs out on the same machine the fact that the results are skewed or not doesn't matter. Considering this is your first set of clubs you don't really have any game experience to base it off of. If you hit one club 20 yards further than you would in real life, you're going to hit every club 20 yards further than you would in real life. The method of measurement is the same throughout the testing, whether flawed or not.

The skewed machine comes into play when people are trying out a new set of clubs and they are basing their decision by comparing it to how they hit the clubs they already have. Take whichever one feels the best and you hit the best according to their machine.

Ask them if they rent the machine out for playing rounds of golf - if they do, then they'll have it calibrated and set for real distances. I checked on in Calgary and in Red Deer (AB) and they were right on the mark - within 5 yards. I know this because I was having some loft and lies tweaked and then I went back and had a couple more clubs adjusted after confirming on the course (with laser rangefinder) that their numbers were good.

It's possible some Golf Town machines are off, which is why you have to bring along some clubs you hit consistently for comparison.

At the Golf Galaxy I usually go to, the players' reps told me the launch monitor registers 5% less yardage than you would get outdoors.

I've seen some people at GG who were very big and strong and/or had really quick hands hit a drive close to 300 yards, but not that many.

Another factor: What kind of balls do you get to hit at a given shop?

Focus, connect and follow through!

This is a good idea for people who have been playing a while, but he said he's just starting out and has only rented and borrowed clubs. I doubt he gets enough consistency to be able to judge if their machine is wonky.

Then why does he care how accurate their machines are? BTW - the "screen" has no bearing on the machine's accuracy, should I call him on that too?

I don't know. He shouldn't. That's the point I was trying to make in my previous post.

    • well i said i dont wanna hear it because its not a problem for me i clearly get pressure to my left side so its dumb for people to just blindly say that
    • So you want us to help you for free but you're telling us what we can/can't say? Probably not the best way to go about seeking advice, IMO. It'd be one thing if you said something like "I've tried this, this, and this and haven't had much success with those so looking for alternatives". But instead you told us to "don't say basic stuff". You realize that a lot of what PGA Tour players work on on a daily basis is the "basic" stuff, right? They're always working on grip, alignment, posture, etc which are pretty basic things. I think you're doing yourself a disservice by being close minded and not wanting to hear anything that's "basic"
    • Take that logic and apply it to temporary water in the general area. The general area is not supposed to be under water. You are entitled free relief to play from another part of the general area that’s not under water. You are entitled to free relief to play from another area of the bunker. Bunkers are limited in size, and the fact that you were not able to play out of the same bunker no closer to the hole was unfortunate, but how does that possibly equate to “I should be able to play out of the grass instead with no penalty?” It doesn’t make logical sense. The ACC accommodates this by allowing the drop out of the bunker for one penalty stroke instead of the usual two, to account for the difference in lie.
    • Day 1:  I had my first “real” practice today at the driving range.  I hit two buckets of balls utilizing all of my clubs minus the pitching wedge (I haven’t had a lesson on that one yet).
    • like I don't like to think I'm an amazing player as I play off around 7-8 handicap or anything but The one miss I have at the minute is with my strike and its getting really frustrating because I don't see what's causing it please don't say basic stuff like I don't weight shift etc because it wont help here are some videos form certain angles (these aren't that fat in the video maybe slightly chunked but its more the fact that the chunk happens 1 in every 4 iron shots so I'm never consistent) https://imgur.com/epaeE4D https://imgur.com/CKeV0Nm https://imgur.com/lJkliwd https://imgur.com/a/1Z7VwK9
