Where do you draw the line?

Pat Perez was making obscene gestures at his ball (flipping it off, etc.) and as such, NBC chose not to show him very much.

Others quickly point out that Tiger Woods (and some other pros) routinely yell obscenities at their balls after hitting bad shots. I've seen Tiger spout off.

To me, NBC chose the line and drew it just fine. It's live TV, and Tiger probably swears as much as or less than anyone else on Tour, but he's on TV more. Verbal gestures and physical gestures seem to be a pretty good line for me.

Until someone starts using those words George Carlin talks about... All Tiger ever says is "God Damn it, Tiger" and things like that. Not a sailor's version of profanity by any stretch...

I agree, NBC drew the line in the right place. Gotta be careful with what you put on TV, especially in the middle of the day.

As for those of us who aren't televised when we play, swearing is an integral part of the game. Not loud enough to bother other groups, not if there is anyone young and/or easily offended. But if everyone in the group is OK, golf is a good activity for getting the salty words out of your system.

Some of the most fun players I've shared the course with have cursed like sailors. And most of them were women. I once played a quick nine with an engaged couple. On the 7th hole, the woman hit into the woods and let loose with a mighty stream of filth. She quickly collected herself, turned beet red and blamed it on having low blood sugar. Ah, good times!

my two cents...
I like seeing guys get pissed and show some emotion. I wish we could see more temper tantrums. Too many Tour pro's are robots. I want to know a guy loves to compete and play the game and gets upset when he's not performing his best. That's why I like Tiger. He doesn't enter tournaments he doesn't think he'll win. Look at Mickelson; he's got that smug look no matter if he pull hooks in the drink or sinks a 20 foot putt. No emotion. Whatsoever.

I never really learned to swear until I started playing golf.

NBC, ABC, CBS is going to show Tiger playing golf whether he is swearing at his ball or playing while giving a topless Hooters girl a piggy back ride. After all he is Tiger Woods .

Pat Perez, who the hell is Pat Perez? That was what most of the audience was saying Sunday. NBC new they would get in hot water for showing a player of Perezs' caliber cussing up a storm walking up the fairway.

If Tiger does it it's justified. I mean come on it Tiger Woods, he is the best, he is entitledto get made and scream if his ball doesn't fade around that tree far enough and he has ten fet to the pin, It's El Tigre!

I seem to be the odd ball out. I don't like to see Tiger dropping the F bomb when he miss hits a driver or swinging his club at a bush and I would not have appreciated seeing Pat Perez giving the ball the bird. These guys are supposed to be professionals and while on the course they should act professionally. I'm not allowed to curse in my cubicle at work so when these guys are at work on the course they should show some restraint. You don't have to flip balls off and use vulgar language to show emotions.

I don't think cussing under your breath is a big deal but I hate to see PRO players throwing clubs. That is completely uncool. Kids watch that and think that is what you do.

I think Bobby Jones once said..... "There are some emotions a man just cannot express with a golf club in his hands" People say these players are hot heads or have bad tempers. I call them passionate.

Swearing is a product of frustration and frustration is a product of golf. They go hand in hand.

My little punk ass was watching R rated movies at no later than 10 years old. And I'm sure most kids these days are used to bad words as well. Just because they see Tiger or anyone else swearing doesn't mean they will atuomatically follow suit. Like all of our Moms used to say. "Just because Tiger jumped off a cliff, would you?"

Personally, I've had a long career with swearing in golf. I used to have fun trying to put as many swear words into a combo as I could after hitting an arrant shot or missing a putt. I think I've rattled off 7 in a row as my personal best.

We figured that a friend of ours dropped the F Bomb 4 times per shot. So if he shot an 85, he'd F Bomb 340 times in one round.

    • MSN Glover expressed his dissatisfaction with what he termed as 'cool kid meetings' between Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tiger Woods and other high-profile golfers. "I think it's terrible," he stated. "And then hiding behind pace of play, I think, challenges our intelligence. They think we're stupid.     "Don't cut fields because it's a pace of play issue. Tell us to play faster, or just say you're trying to appease six guys and make them happy so they don't go somewhere else and play golf." Fitzpatrick joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with the 30-year-old echoing Glover's sentiments regarding the PGA Tour changes. "He's so right," Fitzpatrick posted. "Pathetic that pace of play is spoken about every year and nothing ever gets done."     I agree. Instead of  penalizing  players for  turtle  play they appease the  slow jerks  by  cutting the  fields. They will play even slower  knowing they will NEVER be  penalized.
    • A local film critic gave the movie “Wicked” a great review. I saw the stage musical several years ago (pre-COVID) and enjoyed it. Likely won’t see the cinematic version but one never knows. I probably will go to “Gladiator 2” at some point unless the reviews are terrible.
