How important is it to the average golfer?
If a set or irons is cut down 1.5 inches, how many grams of lead tape would need to be added to the head to recover the same swing weight?

Same question with a driver. If the shaft is cut or choked down on, would any similar adjustments need to be made? If so again how many grams for 1.5 inches?

Its hard to say exactly how many points will be lost, it all depends on the shaft weight and and the weight of the new grips. The best thing to do is buy a cheapo balance beam (swingweight scale) (corks) (weight material) and work from there........or just have a shop swingweight them for you.

I dont think swing weight means that much, even to elite players. I would guess overall weight is more important. I have a roll of half inch lead tape at home, and a one inch strip of that is 2 grams i think. My pro says adding 4-5 inches will change the swing weight of a club by one point

Generally it is 6 sw points for every inch cut off of a shaft. A winn lite grip will get you approx 6 sw points back. I doubt you will notice a couple sw points.

Dragging up this old thread to ask what the swingweight is on any of your 3 hybrids (if you know). A few days ago a guy in our group had a new Titleist hybrid and we hit it. I could tell as soon as I picked it up that the swingweight was higher than mine (or any of my clubs). We measured it at the clubhouse and it was D5. I hit a couple of balls and they were dead straight down the middle. Hard to tell from just a couple of balls but I'm curious if anybody else is playing a D5 swingweight. P.S. I don't even know what the swingweight is on my hybrid and we didn't have time that day to get it out of the truck and check it.

That's definitely heavier than most, mine is D2.  Maybe a heavier swingweight might work better for you, any idea what your irons are?

Thanks. I didn't know if that was something typical for hybrids or not. All I have is a cheap hybrid that I bought several years ago and haven't used a lot, and it seems a little light.

No I really don't know on any of my clubs. The next time I play at my friend's course where he has a swingweight scale I am going to measure them.

I've messed around with different weights on my driver head until I stumbled on something that felt right but that's about it.
