I saw tiger hit a 5wood (I think) out of the right rough on #4 at bethpage black last year in person. I played black a couple of weeks ago. I hit one of my best drives this year and was able to carry the first tier bunkers on the left (never did that before). A friend of mine who's like a 7 or 8 made me wait to go for it in 2 as I was about 220 out. As we we're waiting I made note of how far I was and where Tiger's ball was last year (approximatey). His was obviously further and the tips are probably like 50-70 yards deeper. Guessing he hit 3w off the tee and I remember it was raining that day.
Needless to say, it was the only par I had that day.

One thing for sure, you have to see those tour pros in person to appreciate their skills and talents.

I saw a lot of them during tournaments (in person), but the most memorable one was Ernie Els. The golf clubs looked literally like a toothpick in his hands and his arms were as big as my legs.

On a par 5 (around 550+ yards), he hit the driver and it easily traveled the tall pine trees to cut the left dogleg, which grouped somewhere around 285 yards. I am not sure which club he took to hit the green, but it was an iron (probably a 5 or a 4). These guys can hit them high or low, so the wind couldn't really freak them out (it wasn't St. Andrew's wind or anything like that).

M.A. Jimenez was a winner, as it turned out and I did follow his group towards the end. His irons were so precise that he just kept firing at those tucked pins all day long and he rarely missed his putts.

I'm telling you, when they say "these guys are good", they really meant it. They are to me, almost a freak (in a good way, of course).

Yeah without trying to hijack this thread I will say I hit it far... I really do not know what my average is, I have never tried to figure it out. I always try to put myself into position to score as it is not always good to hit it far. There are a couple of holes on my home course that I can bomb a drive on but I would rather hit it around 90-115 yards because I know I can score there.

But back on topic those guys can flat out play...

These guys can play...seeing them in person is one thing, but playing with them is another. They are playing a different game.

enis750..... I feel for yah! I did the same thing at TPC Sawgrass. Played from the blue tees ( not championship) and shot a smooth 89. I was a 7 handicap at the time. I played a horrible front 9, but things got a little better on the back. Highlights of the day for me was hole 16 (birdie) and hole 17.....( lipped out a birdie putt.)
