I started playing this season in May. Before then, the only golf club I ever swung was at miniature golf. After a few rounds i decided i was going to put all my effort into getting "decent" so when i go out i don't embarrass myself on the course.

I have played every single weekend since the beginning of May(some times twice) and my goal for the season was to break 100.

As of this Friday, i have broken 100 the last 5 times I played! I know it is not a very exciting story, and breaking 100 probably isn't impressive, but it was definitely exciting for me. Just thought i would share....next up. 90!

This first time i swung a golf club was on 5/8/10....

Nice work!

To break 90 all you have to do is keep the ball in play. If you can do that it's easy to at least bogey every hole.

Breaking 100 is cool when you decide to get serious about the game. Congratulations on your achievement. My current goal is to break 90. Keeping the ball in play is an ABSOLUTE necessity. My round today included two doubles, a triple, a quad, and one particularly impressive 6-over (what the 'single word' for THAT?). All thanks to OB penalties. I almost broke 90 in the wrong direction, thanks to shots in the wrong direction. Keep working at it and I'm sure you'll break 90, probably before me!!

It felt great the first time I broke 90. My short game wasn't all that great but I was hitting my driver and long irons very well which got me enough GIRs to finish off with an 88. Now I'm trying to break 80. I'm confident I would have done it already this year but I haven't been able to play much at all. The last round I played 2 1/2 months ago I finished right at 80.

Good luck and just keep the ball in play!

Same deal here; breaking 100 (and not realizing it until after when I started to total it all up) was an amazing feeling, and one that I'll never forget.

Congrats on the achievement and growth of your game!

Congrats, im aiming to break 100. My main focus is putting as I take an average 3-4 putts per hole. I have not played in awhile and have been only playing on practice greens. I now feel comfortable with my putt. I cant wait to go play (might need to wait awhile as I lost my partner and am trying to teach my gf to play).

@ Carts - Don't be afraid to play by yourself. If you can get out when the course is slow, to me, there isn't much better. I enjoy playing golf with my wife, but a solo round is great! Not to mention that you don't have to worry about trying to teach another person when you (meaning ME) don't have the skills.

Thats fantastic, congrats. I finally did the same, and started to take it more seriously this year. My goal was to break 90. I did that this past Sunday with an 89. Now the real test is how my next round goes.

Keep working hard. The average golfer (that doesn't keep a handicap) cant break 120 so your definitely better than average.

Thanks man. My HC is not official or anything. But i have this online website that i enter all the stats from my rounds(total score, DIF, Putts etc) and then it gives me a HC estimate. Right now it is at 22.5 and going down whenever i enter a good round. i have about 20-25 rounds of info entered so far. Whenever i go out i feel like there is so much i could improve on and i put a lot of pressure on myself to do well so quickly. I play with buddies who have played for years and shoot low 80s so of course i want to do that right away. But they tell me the same thing that i am playing great for my first season and picking it up real quickly so i will have to agree with you guys! I will def keep workin hard at it. range 1-2 times a week. gotta break 90 now!
