So I posted a question a bit ago, 'should i quit'. Much insight in that thread.

kept me thinking, this is something I am going to do , even if it kills me, so I better enjoy it. I sure do enjoy planning to go, and being on the course, but oh gad...those bad shots are seriously causing me brain damage.

I'm NOT kidding. I really think I am losing my mind out there lol.

Today, after work. I went out golfing. About 2 weeks ago I had an instruction. First of what was supposed to be several. After the first lesson, I didn't feel $100 / hr was cheap enough for what I got from the lesson.

Now, I realize, what I learned from the lesson is that I really stink. My instructor told me I had a nice swing, but when I really swing, not trying to do it for show, I STINK.

Not sure where to go from here. has anyone had this issue? you get MUCh worse before you get better? My good games are getting better, but my bad games are OH so bad.

I changed my grip. I guess I was overlapping two fingers instead of one. I noticed today that I was going back to just one overlapping, and was SERIOUSLY slicing the ball, hitting the ball fat or just all out topping the ball. You know, stuff I did 10 years! ago.

I'm just not sure where to go from here. I guess maybe really look into that grip and decide on what I'm going to do and stick with it?

Also, apparently, over the last months...and even last year. I was hitting the ball rather poorly. I developed this old man swing that consists of me not turning my hips or bending my right knee. Im literally locking my right knee and just chopping at the ball.

Any suggestions please? I really feel like I'm sliding down and need to wakeup! I feel like I need deprogrammed, and that much of this is all mental that forced me into bad habits. A fair game is a fluke at best.

You know you're right. You really do suck at golf. You even suck more than my grandma. Quit golf, man.

(Is this really what you want to hear? Then stop creating these breakdown threads and bringing more stress upon us. Just play golf. One lesson is not going to get you to breaking 90(or 80). I worked my butt off to get below 80 consistently and it takes work.)

Nothing comes easy in life. Just remember that, man.

Bahahaha To the OP: I dont know get hammered (like 6 beers in 1 hour) then go play 9. See if you feel so bad about 1 blow up round after you shot a 132 on 4 holes before you gave up to get some smokes and jack-coke.

How can you shoot a 42, 46, and 69 for 9 holes?! Was the 69 the first round after the lesson?

If you ARE NOT having fun with the game, QUIT. If you are enjoying yourself and the process than stick with it.

    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
