Looking at adding a 60 degree wedge. My wedge setup includes pitching wedge 45 degrees, gap wedge, 50 degrees and 56 degree sandwedge with 14 degree bounce. I want the new wedge to be more versitile and hit it off hardpan lies. What bouce should I be looking at? Thanks.

For hitting off. Hardpan lies u would want something with low bounce. 8 degrees or so. High bounce will tend to skid into the ball off firm lies.

NO ........... yet another bounce/wedge thread ..... these keep on coming .......... pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

To answer your question, forget all the crap about 0* to 4* bounce needed for hardpan or thin lies, it is all marketing !!! Just buy yourself a nice 7* to 12* bounce wedge and hit the ball at the same time as the ground or hit the ball first and the hardpan second.

Sliding the face under the ball consistently because the bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla no bounce wedge, just forget it if you are no +4.0 capper........ at handicap 19.6 ..... it is best to not even think of a 60* wedge..... it will very soon sit in the garage (for ever).

How many times do you need to hit a LW off of hardpan? Sometimes, a hit-the-ball-first chip shot with a PW or an 8i is more reliable.

Also, some people have trouble hitting a 60* LW, regardless of bounce. I tried the LW from my old set, and a second LW I got for attending a golf event. Couldn't get any consistency without LOTS of practice. Wasn't worth it.

I know two small-college golfers who have 58* as their most lofted wedge. They say the 2* less matters a lot in playability. And, if you look at Golf Digest's WITB feature, several tour pros top out at 58*.

See if someone will loan you a LW to try out first. Not everyone finds the 60* or higher to be a magic club.

I have 8* of bounce on my 60* and find that to be just about right off of most lies. If I have to play off of a really hard lie (like a very dry, rock hard fairway within 20 yards of the green), I will bump and run it if I can. If I have to get over something and flop, I just make sure I make a steep swing and hit down on the ball to pop it up.

If you are always playing on really hard surfaces, you might want to think twice about a lob wedge. Unless you are an excellent ball striker and have spend LOTs of time practicing with the lob wedge, off of hard lies it is probably going to get you into more trouble than it will help.

But...to answer your question....I would go with 6-8* of bounce.
