I've been reading up on and thinking about getting a Junior PGA of Connecticut membership for the 2011 season. I figure it's about time I get exposed to some real competitive tournaments... Any thoughts? I know I need to get a hell of a lot better to compete for high finishes, but I figure it might be worth to get involved...

Given what happened in Wisconsin, the only advice I can give you is to count your clubs on the first tee.

I played a few years on the New England PGA Junior Tour . The name is New England but it is mostly MA, with a handful of events in RI and a couple in each NH, Vermont, CT, and Maine. I guess that's why CT has their own tour. You might be able to find a few Metropolitan PGA Junior Tour events in CT also.

Anyway, I really liked playing in the events. Some have better fields than others, but no matter where you play it's a good time. On the NE tour there are some more advanced 2 day events that college recruiters take notice of. If you are interested in making a name for yourself in the eyes of college courses, AJGA, FCWT, and Challenge Cup tournaments are also available. AJGA and FCWT are national and only hold a tournament or two a year in NE, but Challenge Cup is a step up from the CT PGA Junior Tour and is almost exclusively in NE.

Also, for the CT PGA Junior Tour you won't need to get "a hell of a lot better". Last year I was about a 6-8 handicap and I came in second in my last two tournaments with a 78 and a 74. If your 4ish handicap is at least close to being accurate, you should definitely compete.

Since I'll still be just 18 next summer, I might play in a few events. Maybe I'll see you if I do.

Thanks a lot for the extra information. It sounds like something I would definitely be interested in for next season... And I'll be sure to take a look into the other Junior tour options. I'm actually right on the MA border, so most Massachussetts tourneys wouldn't be much of an issue. Thanks again.

      I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙

      Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
