I will pull either my 3 wood or 5 wood out of the bag depending on the course. If its a course where my driver is to long off a few tees I'll use the 3 wood. If I can hit driver off the tee most of the time I'll use my 5 wood because its easier for me to hit off the fairway. I have no problem making consistent contact with my irons but theres something about the 3 wood that I just can't hit it clean enough off the fairway. So usually using the 5 wood gives me better results. My 5 wood and 3 hybrid are pretty close in distance but its a big enough gap to be worth putting in the bag.

It took me a long time to figure out my 60° wedge. When I first got the club I couldn't hit the same yardage twice with it. Now I'm deadly accurate with it at 50 yards and it comes in handy with down hill lies around the greens. If you have a hard time with your 60 I'd recommend taking that out. Go to the driving range (or backyard if you can) and figure out how to use it there.

Definitely the 60* wedge. MOST amateurs simply don't need one. (Not to make this a discussion about that again)

And, like most here agree on, that 5 wood doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose.

I also have that Sumo2 3 hybrid and I absolutely love it.

Lose the 60 degree. KEEP the 5 wood. 5 wood is a very reliable club for a 20+ hdcp.

When I dropped the 5-wood, I also dropped the 3-wood (which I found I was

I'm going to have to agree with this unless you don't want to have to buy a new club, in which case I would just drop the 3 wood.

I agree with either replacing the 3/5 wood combination with a 4 wood or reconfiguring your bag based on the course/conditions by bagging any combination of a 3 wood, 5 wood and 2 hybrid.

I'm a "reconfigurator" myself. My FULL bag consists of 16 clubs; driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 2-PW, 52', 57', 62'. My gamer bag generally consists of; driver, 3 wood, 2 iron, 4-PW, 52', 57', 62'. Depending on the course/conditions though, I'll bag another combination. I'm always reconfiguring on the long end of the bag though, never with my wedges. Those are ALL safe, ALL of the time.

Thanks for the input guys. So I've decided that the major factor in deciding which club to ditch will be bunker play. I almost exclusively use the 60 for bunkers, because I feel like I can really rip on it and float one out. So my though process would be if I'm playing a course with a good amount of greenside bunkers, I'll keep the 60 and ditch a wood. In situations where there aren't as many bunkers, I'll keep both FW woods in the bag. I have a really hard time letting go of my 5 wood, I feel like the distinctive "tink" sound it makes conjures up some kind of ballstriking memories for me, and I tend to hit it fairly well. I just wish I could feel OK playing 15 clubs, but I almost always carry, and any excuse to lighten the load also helps in the final decision on which club(s) to leave in the car.

You can't have a noticeable yardage gap between your 5 wood and your 3 hybrid. I'd ditch the 5 wood. Failing that, I'd pull the 4-iron or the 60* wedge.

Exactly...

    • Congrats! Day 551, May 6, 2024 Played 18 holes with @DrizZzY hitting irons only and playing the white tees. No really "bad" shots, and a few really, really good ones. Finished on nine (they send us off 10 in May) with… a 197-yard 5I uphill and an 84-yard sand wedge to three feet.
    • Ahh the old classic "nobody agrees with me so I don't want to talk about it anymore"
    • @anaveragehacker, you’ve been ignorant this whole time and now you’re being disrespectful. Not a great combo. You asked what the rules were and we told you. You complained about them and we told you why they were the way they are. The “who is the committee?” Question has been answered a few times. Dave and I are Rules Officials and the other people replying know the rules far better than you, so the fact that we are all disagreeing with you should say something. this thread is going nowhere and your original question has been answered several times.
    • What is this committee I keep hearing about? We’re a small league playing at a county course. And these are temporary issues that may be gone in a day or two. In any case, I wish more people agreed with me. It seems that trying to convince golfers to modernize rules is like trying to change the Bible. You guys are so serious it kind of proves my point. Other sports make adjustments for  field conditions etc during lower level play. This isn’t life and death here, it’s sport. No need to keep arguing. I have my opinion and you have yours.
    • Yeah, I agree that some of the charts are hard to make sense of. That short game chart is showing how often a short game shot ends up within a certain distance. The orange bar is all shots, the green bar is for shots within 25 yards, and the blue bar is for shots between 25 and 50 yards. I just play around with all of it and will figure it out. I would suggest just diving in and see what jumps out and work on that.
