I have started hitting a draw with my irons, and my question is how far do you play the ball to the right to hit your draw, if you have one. And how far is too far to where it is a hook

Thats a feel thing. You just have to do it enough to trust it. I do not aim to the right at all knowing that my ball will start slightly right and come back........... errrrr ahhhhh ummmmmm..... most of the time anyways :)

Just wondering, i played the other day, and on the final 4 holes a was hitting a draw that I would start about 40yds to the right and it would come back. However, i went to the range yesterday and was hitting about a 15 yd draw. Don't know if i was just tired that day or what

40 yds is not a draw. Its a Billy Casper slingshot. :) But hey......... your getting the feel of how to work it that way. Practice it until it is about 5-6 yards or less. Other might be able to explain it better than me.

it will depend on ball contact, what ball you are using, and where your swing path is at. i would classify it as a draw or a big draw if you are controlling it, and a hook if you are losing it to the left.

I aim straight at my target. My draw is only 5 yards maybe. Like stated above....40 yards is not what I would consider a draw.

Thanks, used to be a pretty straight hitter with irons, but this year, i have aquired this draw that i have never had, and i guess i get tired, cause it usually shows its head after about 14 or 15 holes (and it might be because it is hot here and i am walking) But its weird to watch golf on t.v. and when the camera is behind them it looks like they start it 50yds right and bring it back in, is that just an illusion?

No thats how they actually hit it but they are doing that intentionally.. but I'm not sure its quite 50 yards out right.

just saying it looks that way. it looks like they start it well right of the green. it is more than 5 or 6 yards out ( like someone said earlier)

    • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
