Tomorrow I'm going to cut down my Ping Anser 4 from a 35 to a 32.5 and regrip it. Does anyone use a standard round grip on their putter or does everyone use a paddle grip? Why or why not? Anyone have a favorite grip to recommend? I am leaning towards the Lamkin Crossline B&W; grip, just not sure wether to go standard or paddle.
Thanks,
David

I haven't experimented with the grips, though it feels I have a bit more control (perhaps less use of the hands) with my current putter grip. Comparing my old hunk-of-metal blade putter from Northwestern (starter set from ~2001 lol, stock rubber grip) to the grip that was on the Heavy Putter (Winn AVS midsize pistol) when I bought it, I feel like I have to focus a lot more about not bringing my hands into the stroke with the Northwestern. It's really about personal feel, though.

On my Ping Anser I use the plan old black Ping man pistol grip, on my Odyssey White Ice #9 I use the golf pride tour tradition. I would go with the Ping if I had to choose one.

Try putting with your shortest iron. Just try to clip the ball with the blade. That will at least let you feel if you like the round grip with a putting stroke/grip. I actually like my paddle putting grip with the flat spot pointing left (toward my target). I just like the way it fits in my hand.

I have the Winn 68TL-GB midsize grip installed on my Rife Abaco (cuz the Rife grip sucks). Happy with it overall but when it gets wet...it can get a bit slippery.

Paddle grips are the ones with the flat front which I'm sure you have on your Odyssey since my Black series i #1 has one.

I cut down my Mizuno T.P. Mills 2 years ago and the old guy that does my grips had this grip there that made me chuckle and i put it on as a joke and it ended up being my favorite putter grip to date.... it's called Neverbend and has a suction cup on top of the grip so you can just flip your club upside down and grab your ball out of the hole without bending down..LOL.. we call it the lazy man's grip... but look, forget about the stupid suction cup, the grip its self is AWESOME, it's extremely soft and provides great feel (at least for me) I would put another one on in a heatbeat... My friends still joke about the suction cup and every once in a while i still pop the ball out with it to get a laugh, but if your looking for a good grip, don't leave the Neverbend out... I paid $12 for it and honestly it's worth every penny.

This grip is awesome. Good, firm feel in the hands. Mine's relatively new so it still has great tack to it to prevent any feeling of slippage.

Wow cutting 2.5 inches off! that is going to alter the swing weight LOADS. You will also need a massive amount of tape to deal with the lost circumference of the shaft. I like IOMIC putter grips, but if you don't like smooth grips then WINN grips are the way to go.

I commented on the change in swing weight he could expect, not how it would feel as a result.

i have about 10 of my clubs gripped white. what ive learned is to use alcohol wipes ($3 at wal mart) after every 5 rounds or so. works like a dream. they look like brand new after a cleaning.

Should be about the same as when I cut down my B60 from 35 to 33". Now I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, I know it's gonna be lighter, but it should be what I'm used to.

I was going to do it today but after talking to my club guy, he wants me to get him to shove some lead powder down the shaft and put a cork in it before I regrip it. Should this be done? Can I do it? Where would I ever find the powder or the cork? I'm thinking that since I'm already used to a light putter I should just forgo the weighting and just regrip. Thoughts?

David

if the light putter works for you, then stick with it. lead tape on the bottom, lead powder (no idea where you would get it), or whatever else if it doesnt.

if it was me, i would try it for a few rounds first. if you dont like it, you can remove the grip and stuff in the lead powder later. grips are not forever.....like diamonds :)

I like the regular Pingman grip for Ping putters.

My favorite putter grip of all time is the Scotty Cameron Baby T.

    • I respectfully disagree. He's the only guy in the last 59 years to complete the career Grand Slam who's not named Tiger Woods. It's a very small club and he's in it. Once you are in the club, you are in the club. He can retire right now and he's a Hall of Famer.  He's tied with Brooks Koepka for the third most major wins among active players. (And that's only if you count Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as "active" players.)  Everyone knows winning the Masters is difficult and repeating at the Masters is really REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY difficult.
    • To wax a little poetry if I may; it's not how we fall but how we rise after a fall. He always struck to me as a very resilient fella. Surviving the odds including the preening eyes of an army of those who 'expertly' write others off maybe an even higher quality in my book. Hence I refrain from using 'never' as an opinion.  I would have said the same thing about him had he not won this year.
    • Count me in for Saturday at Reserve Run. I'll be there.
    • I think it’s a mix;  yes, he hit those shots 15-17, great shots, under pressure - and the approach in the playoff, stellar.  But I think there’s an element of "he survived”.  Even Rory mentioned himself, the reaction after winning was more about relief than celebration.  AND - he almost gave it away again!  That missed putt on 18, I think he makes that 95/100 tries. The demons almost got him there, but he survived.  Now the conversation will shift to “can he do it again?”  It’s almost like the sophomore jinx all over again.
    • I’m sure this has been discussed before, maybe an update would be good? I think alot of the current announcers are really good.  The guys at Golf Channel, great.  I thought that Paul Azinger was good too, he brought his tour experience and insights, and he’d get that growl in his voice when something big was happening.  Is he still announcing for NBC?  Also - for me it’s good when announcers are not afraid to broach controversial subjects, best if they can do it without coming across as hateful. The Smiley desk at the 17th at the Players, that was great.  I definitely like the comedic and/or gritty announcers. On the other side, a few of the old timers would sometimes rub me the wrong way.  The few that I recall were Steve Melnyk and Gary Koch.  Perhaps most of the time they were fine, but all it takes is that one derisive comment to really stick in the memory.
