3Balls pricing question

PGA.com Value Guide says in the lower left corner of its web page its created and managed by 3Balls.com. Why then do the prices listed for clubs on 3Balls web site exceed the highest resale values listed on the guide? I must be missing something.

I'd have to look into this for the background and details, but it may be because 3Balls wants higher margins? Or, the trade-ins that 3Balls is getting are not in top condition.

They are trade in values, not prices.

If you trade in a car you will get less than what that car will be sold for. It's the same principle.

For example: The "Guide" shows a set of Ping Zing irons ranging from $92.53 (low) to $143.96 (high). On their site, they are advertising a set in "Good" condition for $169.50. It seems they don't follow their guide.

It is just a guide, not a rule. If you could sell something for more than it is worth, you would do it to. Their guide is based on ebay purchases, which can vary widely, not set prices like on a website.

I agree with Shorty and others that it’s just a guide.
But FWIW, I’ve purchased numerous clubs from the 3Balls website. Both sets of irons arrived with nearly all of the irons (unhit) still wrapped in the factory plastic on the heads.
The drivers, fairway woods, putters were received in very good to like new condition and headcovers were included with all of the woods instead of selling those separately for several more dollars which I venture a guess other places may do. (3Balls does note if a club comes with a cover or not) No complaints here concerning their rating, pricing or products and I’ll continue to purchase equipment from 3Balls in the future.

OTOH, I purchased a pair of Vokey wedges from another famous “pre-owned” site that stated the Vokey’s were in good condition. One was in OK condition but, the 54* had a well worn grip and had a sharp edged gouge / dent on the front leading edge of the sole. It was like it was hit into a steel edge or something similar and I have no idea how this even passed a visual inspection.
I e-mailed the company waited, and never even received a reply so, I ended up filing down the sharp edged gouge, used the club for a few months and then bought other wedges from 3Balls.

To me it seems like hiring a realtor to do an appraisal on a property, then list it for more than the appraised value. Sure, you might get lucky, but doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of the appraisal? CT207 seems happy with their service. Perhaps the service comes at a premium. I'd agree that good service has value. I just wondered why the numbers weren't adding up if they were from the same place.

I think you are making this way too complicated. The guide is a "guide". The price is their price. If they didn't have a guide would you be making that big of a deal? It's almost as if they are giving you too much information.

Realtors dont do appraisals. Appraisers do appraisals.

Its an average of what they sale for on Ebay. If you look above the price it will show you how many sets have been factoreds into the average. I've bought some irons and a hibrid from them and they were rated as good, while the hibrid was in better than good shape the short irons were iffy to me. Thats why some real pics would be nice rather than just a rating,heck even give a short explanation of the item.
