This weekend I won my 2nd long drive trophy of the summer. The first one went uphill, into a slight wind 265 yards. I was the first one out and later learned that a few people beat it but didn't find the fairway.

In the 2nd contest, my drive went about 290, downhill, downwind. I thought it was right all the way, but it got a side/down slope and kicked out further down the fairway. I knew I had the contest locked up when I got down there and had beaten the previous mark by 20 yards.

These tournaments were both fund-raisers, so the competition is a bunch of older people, but I didn't think those distances would win. Am I playing with scrubs or are these distances respectable?

If it's in the fairway, it is respectable.

But those are also really good distances.

Despite what you hear on internet forums, 265yds is definitely a very good drive, and 290yds is a bomb. 290 would be in contention anywhere...

I agree. My good drives are normally 250-260, and I'm one of the longest driver among my co-workers.

Great distances. 290 is not just good, it's amazing.

290 is pretty incredible indeed. I for one don't expect to see this kind of distance off the tee anytime in the conceivable future, pending lottery-winning luck on my side.

290 is fantastic. But, according to this forum, only a crippled 11 year old named Nancy would hit it that far. But, according to this forum, someone with an 18.6 handicap should play $1600 sets of blade irons that look like you can spread things on a bagel with them after the round. The point being - this forum is often unreliable as far as truth is concerned.
