Well, one thing I discovered last night was that I don't like inserts. They all felt really soft to me. So I can count out any putter that has an insert.

I like the firmer feel of a milled surface.

I've had Ping Ansers, SC's and could not "consistently" putt good from round to round (over 40 years!). I finally came to the conclusion that I could not control my hands (even trying oversized grips etc) and bought a cheap (new) $56 chest putter. It's a totally different technique even from belly putters and it's transformed my putting. I've come to the conclusion it's not the putter brand but the putter type that will make a difference.

Just call me Bernhardt!!!

I have a Yes! Nicky putter that I used a lot at the beginning of the season. I would say that the SeeMore I picked up has a firmer feel than the Yes! putter.

Are the C-Grooves on the Yes! putters considered an insert? It's kind of an insert, but not in the traditional sense.

The first thing you have to consider is the putter head weight. Can you swing in a good tempo with the putter head weight?
I use Odyssey White Steel 2-Ball Blade because I like the head weight. It's a bit heavier than standard.

Mallet or Blade does not matter. Mallet putter is made for easier alignment.

The length is also very important. Standard is 34". But I use 33". The way to know is to align the ball with your eyes and just hold the putter. Then you find the correct Putter length.

thats my 2 cents.

I am pretty neutral guy, White Ice #1. 35" long, i hate having any sense of the end of the putter near my hands, i rather grip down a bit to adjust. I love the simple look, i don't need much in the way of alignment, i can pretty much tell if its perpendicular to my line. I don't putt with a line on my ball, never liked it. It screws with my mind and gets me off my speed. It has a great soft feel, i like the blade putter because my putting stroke matches that style, just what i developed. I never really worked on a specific putting style, just did what came natural to me. The only changes in my putting i made was move my right index finger on my grip from being extended downt he putter grip to more in a gun trigger position. This stopped me from pushing my putts.

I wouldn't call them an insert, they're milled grooves

It was since you wanted a firm feel off the face I thought a YES! putter would be perfect. I always liked the redwood putters but they are way too expensive for me

I would never of thought putter fitting would be something worth doing, but I went for on iron fitting and a callaway perfomance centre, and we do my putter for kicks, to my shock I was fitted to 34" flange blade with no offset. I have always thought of this type of putter to be less forgiving adn not for me, but the numbers did not lie. I switched and my putting has been much better eve since. The wierd thing is I don't feel like I am fighting my putter anymore, as the style seems to match my stroke nicely.

It's quite simple.

What he said. Of all the clubs we use, the putter is the most personally idiosyncratic. Jim Furyk is currently leading the FedEx Championship with a putter he bought at a garage sale for $35. So much for fitting and expense. Whatever works best for you is what is best for you. Simple.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
