My game has improved by about 10 strokes after stop going to the pro. First of all, i would like to make it clear that it is no fault of the pro, and i believe i have a very good pro. The problem is more because of my mental issue. Let me try to explain.

The pro i go to is good in imparting good swing technique, e.g. good weight transfer, holding the lag and swing through the ball with a slight forward lean on the shaft. The problem is when i do this, even though my ball distance is going longer (due to slight delofting of club), my direction dispersion is very large. Hence, my second shot on par 4 usually end up in the bunker.

However, after stop going to the pro for a while, i told myself to do a rhythmic swing and do a nice and wide circular swing. In doing so, i may lose the lag and hence reduce the distance, but my ball is straight and always on the green.

Am i on a wrong path that will lead to tons of problem downstream? I know doing this is likely to promote fat shot if you are not careful, but i have been able to manage that for now.

As for the reduction in distance, it is the least of my worry as my 7 iron can easily go 155 yds.

Anyone play the second shot in this way?

I recommend you get a video camera and film your swing. It makes things a whole lot easier for us. Recommending things based on your observations may do more harm than good.
