Here is the deal. I have went thru 3 different drivers over the past 5 months. I cannot get the right shaft / loft combo going, so I am always trying different drivers. I have decided to stick with the Cobra F Speed driver but was not sure on the loft & / or shaft combo. I had the 10.5 w/ the stock Aldila shaft made for the F speed but found my balls ballooning too much. I tend to hit high shots anyways, so I was hoping that the Aldila shaft would bring the ball flight down a tad bit. It didnt. My question is.... Would I lose distance if I shoot down to a 9* or should I stick with the 10.5* & change to a shaft that will bring the ball flight down some? Would that 9* be harder to keep straight? I played a 9.5* R5 prior to this quest. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Short answer: Find a competant clubfitter and a launch monitor and demo, demo, demo. Otherwise you are just wasting money and time trying to find a driver that works.

A gain/loss in distance is dependant on more than just the loft of the club.

Based on what I've read here, I recommend that you get fit in person by a competant clubfitter. Also using a launch monitor can help narrow down why you tend to hit high shots, it could be you have the wrong loft, shaft or both.

Here is your answer. I learned this the hard way this summer. Just spend an afternoon on the monitor and you will understand how important this is.

    • LIV golf was pretty close to me in 2023, at the same course that hosted the 2023 Senior PGA.  I didn't go to either one.  I do know a few people who went to the LIV event, and they said it was pretty well attended and pretty well run.  If I had free tickets, I might show up, but I'd probably have to drive 10 miles to park to get a shuttle to come back to within 5 miles of my house.
    • As long as "in town" means a drive of less than an hour, I'd probably go.  I've never actually been to a pro golf event, so it would be a novelty. Presumably, they'd be playing on a course that I'm not normally allowed to visit, so there would be an interest in just going to see the place. My tolerance for traffic is pretty minimal, so if massive headaches are predicted it would dampen my enthusiasm.
    • I would definitely buy tickets and go watch a round or two.
