Took my fiance out for 9 holes today and shot a 40 from the ladies tees. It was interesting to play from a different perspective. I also had to play in regular athletic shoes because someone raided the bed of my pick-up (i have a bed cover, which must say I store valuables in there or something...which I don't). I took a few irons out of the bag to lighten it up since my pull cart was also taken. I seemed to stay very loose throughout and did not have any bad holes (5 pars, 4 bogeys).

Basically just wanted to share my enjoyment in playing from different tees.

Just curious, from your handicap ranking it seems you scored lower than you would playing from your normal tees. Do you think the difference was having a shorter approach shot into the green or did you have an exceptionally good short game going today or do you need to update your handicap?

The reason I ask is that the pro I was taking lessons from kept saying scoring only occurs from 100 yards in, while I find my driver and woods mishits can cost me two or three strokes before I get into range. We have argued over that and I'm working on getting a reaptable working swing for my mid irons to my driver and once I get that sorted out I know my scores will drop if not like a rock at least like a day old helium balloon.

Discard that, it's just stupid. Of course the long game makes a difference, it makes a big difference. Scoring occurs from the first tee to the last hole, every shot counts.

Sorry to hear about the loss of items from your truck. Some people are just rotten scum of the Earth. How did your fiance fare?

It is a combination of things. My handicap is more of a guess based on a few scores since I do not get out much to play. I do not believe the shorter distance came into play much at all because I hit my 2hybrid on some shorter par 4s to compensate and I am a long player with the driver. The biggest difference came in the absence of penalty strokes, I played smarter on approaches and

evaluated my abilities much better. Regarding your pro's comment about scoring under 100yds. He is very right, it is certainly not 100% for obvious reasons, but when you hit a poor chip or wild approach leading to a 2 or 3 putt your score will rise quickly.

My fiance played better as we went. She is not a natural athlete and has only been out once this year due to grad school, but she enjoys walking and playing with me so that is all that matters. I would like to get her a lesson or two to get her a base. As a teacher and coach I try to help her with little things on the course, but I am not capable of spotting the big things holding her back. She has a hard time getting the ball up into the air. She understands a lot of the concepts in the golf swing because she is very smart and observant but has a hard time applying them with only playing a couple times a year...hell I can't do many things I want to be able to do and I play much more than 2 times a year haha.

O and I am not too torn up about the things in my truck. I wanted some new golf shoes since mine were not terribly comfortable and I walk a lot, and a push cart instead of the old school pull cart I had.

Going out once or twice a year would be hard. You might want to push the lesson thing on her then she would see a big improvement right off the bat. It might tail off when she gets out on the course because everything seems to close in when your out there. The practice range is so wide open and gives you a false sense of your abilities. It will come in the end. Confidence will build and she would be a regular playing partner. Concerning your stolen shoes, let's hope that they give them many years of foot pain. haha

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
