Well, i at this scramble i played at, for charity they had this long drive guy there. For 20 bucks he will hit a few drives on this par 5 and you can take the best one as your drive. It was fun. Well he played MOI drivers, with a Gafalloy prototype S shaft. The thing had 5 degrees of loft on it and he just launches this ball, and he wasn't swining as hard as i saw them on TV. I bet he could just demolish it if he actually let one go.

I could be wrong, but I'm virtually 100% certain all the equipment they use is conforming. They're just that good.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

So yea, if you do long drive, your probably using a non conforming driver, and the golf ball might be none conforming. But still, they can launch it.

No, it's not non-conforming.

Take the money kid, forget being an amateur, you'll get noticed much more by winning this competition than by being 5th in some amateur tournament that noboby saw. You can still practice and play all you want with the money you'll make winning long drive competitions maybe can forgo being an amateur and go on to q school and become a pro, can make a lot of money on the nationwide tour.

I'd say he has the right idea not accepting the money if he wins. By maintaining his amature status that opens the door for him to receive scholarship money to college. That alone probably equals whatever prize money he might be declining. He also then can remain on the amature circuit so that he can develop his game in addition to a college golf career. If he manages to win he'll get all of the attention, more even, because his not accepting the prize money will be as much of a story as his winning on the long drive circuit. Even if he wins on the long drive circuit, declines the prize money, but his golf career doesn't pan out he can always turn pro at any time and I doubt his ability to win on the LD circuit would be effected as a result.

Or he could take the bird in the hand, put himself through college with the money, and pursue whatever golf/long drive goals he has, with a college education to fall back on.

But truthfully, I'd guess his parents probably have a ton of money anyway, and his college will be paid for either way, and the money probably doesn't make that much difference in terms of his life plan. -Andrew

I saw a video where Sadlowski actually said he uses a driver with a thicker face (and, thus, a lower COR and less "trampoline effect") than normal drivers because he would cave a normal face in after about 10 shots.

In my bag:

He'd be lucky to get in 10 drives with my G10 - did you see the face on that thing?

One must remember that he is using a long shaft, so you can't really compare it to how long you drive it. Impressive though, obviously.
What I Play:

LOL - yeah I'm sure that's all that's holding us back from cracking the 400 yard barrier.

Obviously! :P I am basically saying that he probably picks up 40 yards or so with that long shaft, pinnacle rock, low degree driver, EPIC SWING ARC...

I play golf right in his area (Boundary Oak, Diablo Creek, Delta View, Lone Tree, etc.). I wonder if he practices at one of those places or at a CC.

That was filmed at the range I go to. Right around the corner from my house. Never seen this kid there before, too bad, I'd love to see him knock it that far.

    • Not to take away from the OP's question but the Snell 3.0 is about all you could ask for in a ball. I'm not a paid spokesman and my opinion does not reflect on the owner of the site. Lexi Thompson could beat most people with a Top Flite, or a Nitro. Ben Griffin? He doesn't offer a lot of street cred so I'll pass. Now if Fat Perez or Heavy Ballesteros start using it then?????? 😀
    • Just read that Peter Oosterhuis passed away. He was the one and only celebrity I have asked for an autograph! In September 2007, I was in the Charlotte Airport awaiting a flight reading my October 2007 Golf Magazine. It was during the FedEx playoffs and Tiger had just won the previous tournament with the Tour Championship the next event. I watched the event listening to the dulcet tones of Peter Oosterhuis, among others. I opened the magazine, and started reading an article about Oosterhuis and the opening picture had him posing as James Bond in a movie’s opening sequence. I looked up from the article and he was sitting directly across from me!    I approached and showed him the article and asked if he would sign the photo. Mr. Oosterhuis asked “Are you keen on golf?” When I responded positively, we spoke for about 10 minutes discussing the fact that both Phil and Tiger had won FedEx events prior to the Tour Championship. He was very gracious and a wonderful storyteller. I was saddened by his battles with dementia and missed him on CBS’s telecasts.
