I got clocked at ave 105mph with the driver on the weekend. The guy from Bridgestone said im def a stiff shaft in drivers (graphite). What flex should my steel irons be? Looking at Tm R7 or R9 irons.

I was clocked this summer at 108 mph average with the driver (stiff shaft, 75g). I have had stiff shafts on my irons since I was 14 (True Temper S300). I do have a slight draw with them and sometimes I wonder if I need extra stiff when that draw turns into a hook. It doesn't happen enough for me to switch.

What is carry distance of your 7 iron? What flight pattern do you have?

At 105mph with the driver, you're likely a stiff. If a shop near you has the Mizuno shaft optimizer, if it a shot. It pegged my current shaft pretty accurately.

You have a choice between DGS300, DGSL300, Project X 5.5, Project X 6.0, or KBS Stiff. You need to try them out since a shaft optimizer can only suggest what you "should" use and can't tell how they feel to you. If you like something a bit on the lighter side go with the DGSL300, PX 5.5, or KBS.

Thanks for the replies. My 7 iron goes 150 meters, so bout 160 yards, and my flight is high launch kinda like bombing, but i feel thats cos i use almost super GI irons. They have a huge sole and fat top line.

Also take a look at the flexpoint, or kickpoint, of the shaft. A low kickpoint gives you higher trajectory (more initial lift), while a high kickpoint gives you a lower trajectory.

Flighted shafts (available in some Project X models) give you extra lift at impact, but keeps the ball somewhat lower overall. It also prevents short irons from ballooning.

Other factors to consider are tip stiffness and torque.

Check out the shaft company websites to get side-by-side comparison of the shafts on technical specs.
