Towards the end of this year I am beginning to get sharp pain in my right pinky finger while using my standard interlocking grip. It got to the point today that I had to switch to the overlap while warming up at the range before I played. Surprisingly, I was able to make the switch and still post an 82 (with three three-putts!!! ).

So I was just wondering, has anyone else had this issue with the severe pain using the interlock grip and made the switch?

It just seems crazy to me, I don't remember injuring the finger or anything like that, it just started hurting the past couple of rounds. And I have always used the interlock with no issues. The overlap, while obviously playable for me, still seems very uncomfortable at times. Hoping I can get used to it!

The only thing i can think of is that you injured it, or your gripping way to hard. Can you hold the club in your right hand only gripping it hard, if you have a hard time gripping down on the club with your pinky, you probably hurt it. Is it a sharp pain, dull pain, does it ache?

Well, I really don't grip the club too hard, I don't think. It is something I try to be pretty conscious about. It is a sharp pain that pretty much starts right at and through impact. But I don't get it at all with the overlap grip. So, something at that moment is putting pressure on a very sore spot.

I tried earlier this year to go from overlap to interlocking and was unable to sustain it. I, too, was getting pain in my pinky finger, and I was getting a blister or two when I never did before. I went back to overlap and haven't had any issues (I switched because at the time I was having hook problems and thought this might help).

I honestly don't see how the interlocking grip works for people but it does.

    • Yes.  Did he not hit the range before the round? When my first few pre-round drives aren't what I expect, the first thing I check is my driver settings, in case they changed.  I am on my second adjustable driver and I am still not trusting that golf gremlins don't change it between rounds. The second thing I check is my alignment and setup, and that is far more often the culprit than my settings. In any case, there are some simple things that I imagine should be on a professional player's pre-round checklist that I am surprised when they aren't.  One of those is the settings for any adjustable clubs.
    • It was also set at B1 at a previous event, and… so there's dubiousness around whether he's telling the truth (again).
