TGM verus S&T versus ?? What are the main differences?

I have been learning a lot this year. Pretty much learned enough to confuse myself.

I have read many references to The Golf Machine. Bobby Clampett's book "The Impact Zone" was of great usage to me and opened my eyes. I spent a day each with Jeff Evans and David Orr. These guys are absolute genuises and improved my golf game literally overnight. If I am not mistaken, both these guys have some roots in TGM. Lynn Blake is another TGM guy that many folks seem to highly regard.

I have read where many guys are sold on the S&T; method. There seems to be a quite loyal following to say the very least.

Then there are other well known guys like Brian Manzella that don't seem to subscribe to any specific methodology.

While all these teaching philosophies have their own merit I am sure, I fail to understand the main things that seperate them. What exactly is so different about TGM and S&T; and well, everything else? I am looking for a direction to take my golf game. I never realized until recently how much the more popular teaching philosophies varied.

Pros/cons? Any opinions at all would be appreciated.

Dan, i am not so familiar with TGM so i may be commenting out of turn here, but:

The main difference with stack n tilt i believe (sure i will be corrected) is the large focus on setting ones weight forward at address, thus preventing unnecessary lateral movement, thus making the golf swing more simple for average joes and the new people to the game. If this makes them play better and enjoy the game then thats what we want.

I guess the other philosiphies you speak of are traditional methods that have been used for generations.

For what its worth, i believe in trying things once and if it doesnt work then fine, ive lost nothing and had a go. Most people i assume would take parts of different swings to create their own swing.

Not sure if this is what your after but thought id add to the discussion.

He says that, but it's not really true any more than a good S&T; instructor allowing for variations in the pattern. And Brian Manzella was big into TGM before he discovered that being a tool leads to more hits on his site.

He's a TGM guy too. TGM is like "fruit" and S&T; is like "apple." You can eat a lot of fruits. Apples are one of 'em. TGM defines EVERY golf swing. S&T; is one pattern of the pieces defined in TGM. It's that simple. And this isn't egotistical, but that should really be the end of the thread.

I think you've misunderstood things, Dan... I gave you the answer. It's the only answer there is and any other answer would be wrong or repetitive.

TGM defines EVERY swing you can make and details compatible components. It defines terms and provides a common language for golf instructors who want to learn TGM. S&T; is one of several patterns from TGM... There's no such thing as a "TGM swing" because EVERY golf swing is a "TGM swing," so you can't compare "TGM vs. S&T.;"
