One of the 12 Night episodes was focused on the "Staying Connected" swing philosophy. I tried it out today just based on what was in the episode and could see how it could work really well.

Anyone tried it? It seems to compliment SnT pretty well. I did find that I was shifting a small amount of weight to the right side, but for the most part I was still 55/45 on the left side on the backswing and 95/5 probably at finish.

I just hope the op isn't talking about Mr. Elbows down and Mr. Cargo Shorts... haha

cbrian, I am. But the elbows down thing is also in Ben Hogan's book, which is why the episode perked my interest. He really didn't say to do anything that Mr. Hogan himself didn't recommend.

Little shoulder rotation, restricted hip turn, arms off the body, upper center moving all over the place, etc etc. I would assume Hogan would disagree with all of that, but I know that S&T doesn't agree with any of that.

See cbrian's post. Jimmy Ballard does NOT teach a Hogan swing...

Yeah, I think Jimmy skipped the plane of glass part

I think Jimmy went to a different school altogether. The length of the bus he rode to get there has yet to be determined.

    • Could someone more knowledgeable than I am explain exactly what Justin Rose is trying to feel/achieve with that exaggerated pre shot swing routine of his? It looks like he's trying to get his hands and arms to move down before he starts his rotation, but I'm sure that's not it
    • Yes.  Did he not hit the range before the round? When my first few pre-round drives aren't what I expect, the first thing I check is my driver settings, in case they changed.  I am on my second adjustable driver and I am still not trusting that golf gremlins don't change it between rounds. The second thing I check is my alignment and setup, and that is far more often the culprit than my settings. In any case, there are some simple things that I imagine should be on a professional player's pre-round checklist that I am surprised when they aren't.  One of those is the settings for any adjustable clubs.
    • It was also set at B1 at a previous event, and… so there's dubiousness around whether he's telling the truth (again).
