Another fun fact about this story...so when he was getting worked on, the doctor was saying that it didn't go all the way to the bone but it did penetrate down to the muscle. So my buddy could roll his ankle or toes (forget which) and he said he could see the actual muscle moving up and down inside the hole in his leg. Now thats gross!

To get back to cost part of it, does anyone know how that whole in network/out of network ER visit deal works?

In network/out of network ER visits depend on the insurance. Some pay 80% of out of network ER, others more and still others less. Have your buddy look at his policy.

BTW--that picture looks gross!!! I can see what looks like the muscle and tendon in that picture. There goes my lunch appetite.
