Hey guys, I'm a new member so I wanted to start off by saying that I've learned a ton since I've been lurking around reading all the posts for a while.  I finally decided to register and get on the grid!  Reading the posts on this site (esp. Erik's) have really motivated me to try Stack and Tilt.  So along with my intro, this is my first video of my S and T attempt. One last thing, I've had 20 yrs. of a "conventional" swing (translated: big sway right) and Stack and Tilt has really gotten me excited about golf again.  My ball striking has really improved the last few months.  Thanks again, please critique away!

I like the action of your left knee, that it doesn't cave in on the backswing like a lot of swings we see here. Only thing I see is your head moves forward a little much on the follow through. It's a very good swing though.

Good leg action! You also seem to maintain good pressure with your left arm across your chest. Wonderful stuff.

I hesitate to give and SaT advice, because I'm learning like you.. . So buyer beware! Here is what I notice:

Your hands are really high compared to Charlie Wi's. He is much more compact and swinging around , where you are swinging up .:

Lots of good things, especially your hip push forward and leg/arm extension into impact

The main thing I see is that during the backswing, the club head and shaft go under plane and in behind you early, then you lift up.--take a look at Erik's "deep hands" thread

Here's Grant Waite with a driver DTL.  His body habitus is similar to yours--see how well connected his arms are to his torso throughout the swing.  Notice that even with a driver, the club head and shaft don't go behind the hands until after clubshaft parallel to ground in backswing.

Thanks for the help so far, and the compliments.  I'm definately going to keep working on my swing plane.  It's been a bear to try to get rid of this upright pull motion.  The forum's been a real big help so far!  I'm still open for any suggestions, but I had a question:  Does anyone know of any S and T instructors in the Jacksonville, FL area?  I'd love to try to get a lesson.  Thanks!

Just found this site of certified S&T; instructors.  Looks like there's some in Orlando

There is also a map of S&T; instructors world wide on the home page.

I went on the site and emailed Dan in Jacksonville, and he told me he only worked with Tour players and college golfers.  Not being either one of those, I'm going to have to keep learning as much as I can from everyone on here.  As I read Erik's "Deep Hands" thread, I just wanted to clarify what you guys thought.  My hands are ok on the backswing, but I let the club head and shaft get behind me too much/ too soon.  Are there any drills that I could do to work on to keep me from getting under plane to early?

It appears as you're lifting your hands up too high. Here's Mike and Andy explaining it. If you're truly after the Stack and Tilt pattern you should consider it:

Tees under your armpits. They shouldn't fall out until the through swing, it at all.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
