Thinking about the trend toward spikeless shoes like the Freddy Ecco and the TrueTours, I'm thinking about non-golf shoe experiments. Has anyone tried playing in, say, well-treaded trail running shoes? Something that would provide traction, but not so much as to damage greens.

I've been wearing the Sketcher Sport Bobcat with direct register traction soles.  They work great in dry conditions.

Never tried wearing anything other than soft spikes. Our local courses have signs that say "Soft Spikes Only".

I'm sure they just don't want you using golf shoes with metal spikes, they tend to tear up greens.
