Which should hit farther, a 5W or 2H ?

Trying to bridge the gap between my driver & 3H  (a 3W is out of the question at this stage of my game - just have too much trouble hitting it off the mat - need to build confidence with the shorter clubs first - I've been working on my 5W & hit it fairly decently).     I compared a 2H & 5W at a golf store & the 5W shaft is only a half inch longer.     Just curious how the two clubs differ performance wise ...  THX !

a 5W might be longer but should have considerably more loft than a 2H.  I would think a 2H would go further but not if you can't get it off the ground.  As for how they differ it really depends on each golfer.  Some prefer the hybrid some prefer the forgiveness of the fairway woods.

This is good advice ... I tend to get too caught up with distance - need to just hit what I have confidence in for now...

Actually a 2H and 5 wood will have equal lofts. The 2H replaces the 5W and is anywhere between 17 - 19 degrees. A 5W is around 18 degrees of loft.

In my experience, a 5W goes a little further than a 2H. I game a 2H because it launches a bit lower than the comparable 5W does and is easier to work and hit recovery shots with.

As DeryckG suggested, hit both clubs and find out which one is easier to hit. A 10 yard difference (hypothetically) influence your decision. If you were looking for distance and forgiveness, I would go for the 5W.

In my case, I pretty much own the "bladed iron" version of a FW and hybrid and think that my 3W is slightly more forgiving than the 2H.

I started out playing a 2 hybrid, and after several rounds of struggling with it I replaced it with a 5W. The distance is about the same, but I know for a fact I can reach farther with my 5W if I need to. I put my Ping i15 fairway wood in the bag about 9 months ago and its never come out. I call it my "money club" now.

agreed, get the more comfortable club for YOU

I much prefer my 2H to a 5 wood.  Distance isnt the issue for me as I hit the 2H 240-255yds or longer if it's off a tee.  I find its better out off the rough and easier to shape.

SVTgolfer prefers a 5 wood, he's not wrong, it's the better club for him.

I have both, gotta say i'm personally in love with the fairway...hybrid is good off the tee for a long par 3 tho...
