Thanks again to all of your comments. This is by far the most productive forum on the internet. Everyone is so nice and helpful. I wish I could help you all with something like you have for me. I will let you all know what I end up getting when the time comes, untill then it's time to scour the internet in research.

I'm planning on going to the golf galaxy in Towson, MD, and i am looking for a new set of game improvement irons. Last year, I was consistently hitting mid to high 80's, only been playing golf for 4 years now. I figure if I get fit correctly, my 6'3 frame  will b finally be able to hit consistent iron shots. I have been living off my wedges and hybrid.

The question is, what irons do you all think would be best for myself?

Been looking at the Titleist AP1's, Nike VR full cavity, and the TM burner plus. Is there any other kind that would be good to test out (because I am testing as many sets as I want, I don't care if I have to go to golfgalaxy 4 times.

thanks for your help!

Of the clubs you have mentioned, my vote goes to Niki. My favorites are Mizuno though and Niki right after them.

I was in your position a month or so ago. Hit a lot of different irons AP1, AP2, Nike VR (all of them), etc. I ended up with Mizuno MP53. Switching from a set of G15's, they took a little bit of getting used to. So far, they are amazing. Hit very solid, with a good feel to them, but still retain some forgiveness. They are worth taking a look at.

On a side note, to me they are a beautiful set of clubs.

Good idea to try out different clubs. I am new to golf and blindly bought x-20's based off of what someone told me. I like them but have nothing to compare them to. Once I play this entire upcoming season will go for a new set and fitting.

I tried the jpx 800 pro series and bought a set on ebay.....cheap.  it is a decision that I could not be happier with.  I have the dynalite shaft.  This club is incredibly responsive and I hit them straight as a stick.  They sound great when hit and give you a feedback when you make a mishit without losing distance or accuracy.  I can't wait for summer or early spring for that matter.

I hope no one here is from my club, I don't want any of  those thieves with these clubs.

You may have purchased blindly, but the X-20's are really good clubs, I'd actually say great clubs for a relative beginner.  I played with a set of X-12 clones for over 9 years, and my handicap only got better with practice, not when I switched clubs.  If you really want to get better I'd spend your money on a) lessons or b) more golf and range sessions.

Well, after doing research this is the list of clubs I'm most likely going to try when I head to GG.  Titleist AP1's, Taylormade Burner Plus, Nike Full Cavity, Ping G15/I15, Mizuno JPX/Pro and the MX-100.  These seem like the clubs through looking at the reviews and specs that would help me the most, now when I go I'm going to get fitted because I'm almost positive I need extra length and maybe Lie adjustment.  The question is, after getting these, do I then buy a new SW and LW to go with? hmm more and more decisions to be made.  I appreciate everyone's input.

    • Day 16 (25 Mar 25) - Worked with the 7i into the net - hit about 20 balls.  Worked on the downswing transition, kept the swing to about 1/2 speed.
    • It's a one time thing I think - not something you're saying you're going to play exclusively forever...
    • Yeah, uhhh… keep them dry? Because, yeah, the chrome is partly to help them not rust. You could have them re-plated, though you'd have to check on the legality. You could have them refinished by a company like this: https://www.theironfactory.com (they have closed, but there are still some other companies like them). Or, use them until they rust out a bit too much, and buy a new set.
    • Good, sensical post. Kudos.
    • On further reflection, I take back my "stupid" comment. It does make sense when put in context that the rule is to prevent any external attachments to the face of the club. Any change to that rule to allow exceptions would complicate the rule unnecessarily when it is easy enough to remove the stickers, etc.  I was surprised with her coaches advice and I've told her to just remove them before any competitions.
