Okay, I know it is probably a large "ego" pill to swallow (i'm counting myself here), but has anyone compared a Pro V1 X vs an NXT Tour?  I ask because I am hearing that the new NXT Tour feels good and has solid control/stop around the greens.  I generate a lot of spin with my shots and the pro I work with suggested maybe we compare the two against each other too see (I also shred the covers on Pro V1 X's with wedges, gets expensive).  I have played the Pro V1 X every since it came out.  Just wanted to see if anyone (since the weather is just now breaking here) has done a comparison like this with the 2011 or 2010 balls.

I have played with both and if the markings were removed and the outer color was identical I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  Not sure if that is because of the ball characteristics or because I'm not a particularly skilled golfer.

I have played both NXT tour and Pro 1.  I will say the durability of the NXT is better but the spin on the greens is only slightly better with the Pro 1.  I do feel that the Pro 1 is softer coming off of all clubs.  I play the NXT tour full time now unless I run across a sleeve of Pro 1 every now and then.  I also play the NXT because of cost (college students are poor), but I do not feel like I"m giving up anything by not playing the Pro 1.

Here is my Pros and cons of each ball

Pros of the NXT:

Durable

Good spin and control around greens

Distance is great

Cons of NXT:

Not as "soft" feeling off clubface as ProV1

Pros of the ProV1:

Green spin and control are the best

Distance is the same as the NXT tour

Cons of the ProV1:

Not as durable

Why is this a large pillow to swallow??  Play whatever ball suits your game.  If the NXT Tour suits your game, then play that ball.

Playing a Pro V doesn't make anyone a superstar.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
