In a way this is a simple way to state what I did in my post.  If there is no overt manipulation of the club the rest of the process is finding a way to make a repeatable stroke.  This assumes you practice enough to figure out what alignment allows you to start the ball on the line you choose and have enough rythyhm and feel to develop good distance control.  I suspect that the basics should cover those areas as well.  So while path may vary, don't fundamentals which give you a repeatable path matter?
