If my Ping g15 at 45.75 is d3

If I cut it down to 44.5 what will it be and how much weight will I need to pour down the shaft?

I just cut my Nike from 45.75 to 44.5....I haven't noticed any significant weight changes....not enough to make a difference. Sure is easier to hit the ball though :)

Rule of thumb is around six swing weight points per inch, so going from 45.75 to 44.5 would take you from D3 to about C5. Based on 2g per SW point, you'd have to add 15g to the head. But that's going to change the static weight of the club a fair bit -- which may or may not feel like an improvement to you.

I am going from using a mutlicompound grip

If I fit a lighter weight grip will it help bring the swingweight up?

A lighter grip may help the swingweight, but the overall weight of the club will drop by the reduction of the shaft and change in grip weight.  This may not be a big deal, but swinging a C5 driver will be.

C-5 might, or might not be heavy enough, it's really about how it feels to you.  I have a 43.75" driver that measures C-3, I let a friend of mine use it and he felt no weight difference from a driver that was at D-0 and 45.5".  I cut an Adams Redline RPM driver down from 45.5 to 44.25 and didn't do anything to increase the swing weight, gave it to my brother without telling him it had been modified and his accuracy and distance improved dramatically over the driver he had been using.   Callaway was making some mens drivers at C-8 a few years ago so they seemed to think it was all right to go light.

An easy thing to do is to cut it down and try it.  If it's too light stick lead tape to it until it feels right, then weigh the tape and you'll how much weight to add to the shaft, shaft tip, or glue to inject into the head.  Or just leave the tape on it.
