Just saying this is a great forum cant wait to become a member!!

Im a college student in the detroit area and cant wait for the snow to melt!

Hello and welcome!  I'm from Michigan as well.  Get up every morning and watch the weather anticipating that someday the weather will warm up consistently and we'll be able to golf.

haha I do the same. I check the 10 day forecast like 3 times a day just to see if one day it will be warm enough to get on the range.

I am a Michigan native as well. What school do you attend? I almost went to Oakland, but it didn't work out.

At any rate, glad you found us.

I especially appreciate the equipment reviews and light-hearted posts you find here.

I go to Wayne State. Wish I could go away, but the money situation kind of pt a damper on that. Its a pretty good school though, so I dont mind.

In regards to the sand trap, I found this website about 2 years ago but just never posted, which I regret. I practically live on this site, and it has actually inspired me to start my own site, but it is not half of what the sand trap is...

ive been doing the same thing as you... the local 9 hole course doesnt open until april so it is free golf till then..well, once the weather breaks.

I always enjoy the early part of the season because I get the chance to play courses that I wouldn't normally play.  I'm willing to pay the cheaper spring rates, but not some of the more expensive summer rates

      I had another interesting ruling last week, in a pro "junior/senior fourball" event.  Near one of the greens was a drain, with the actual grate set maybe 3 or 4 inches below the ground surface.  It wasn't in a depressed area, basically just a straight-sided hole, with the surrounding ground pretty level.  A Player's ball was in some longer grass adjacent to the grate, maybe even overhanging a bit, to the "side" of the drain, so the path of his swing was "tangent" to the circular grate.  The ball was at ground level, so 3 or 4 inches above the metal grate itself.   As I saw it, there was no way at all that the actual Obstruction would impact any reasonable swing path, so I denied relief.  I did talk it over with another official, who said he would probably have allowed the relief, but agreed that it was a borderline call.
