My new SkyCaddie "SG3"...Review

Thanks for the response, Ty. Any other opinions on accuracy from other users?

Skycaddie claims an accuracy of "within 1 yard" im pretty sure. I have found my SG2 to be very accurate when I have used it, certainly nowhere near 30-60 feet. Id say their 1 yard estimate is pretty darn close on the (4star skycaddie rated) courses ive played on.

I only chose the SG3 because I was buying one for the first time. Although the "Target" screens are a lot more detailed, I don't know if I would trade up if I was in your spot? The SG2 is a GREAT unit...I only ended up buying a SkyCaddie because I was so impressed when I played with guys who were using the SG2.

I got an SG4 for Christmas and couldn't be happier. The quick, accurate range provided has been a godsend - especially inside 100 yards.

For those people looking for a case - i got a "Gilsson MEN - Neoprene case for eXplorist series" online and it fits like a glove.

Got your e-mail. I just got the neoprene case today. The Skycaddie seems to work fine; however, it is inside my house. Like an idiot, I hadn't considered it might not work.

I dont think the case itself will interfere with the signal. I was just curious as to if the buttons are pressable with the case on. I seemed to see 2 versions of the case, 1 that had a clear plastic face, and one that had no plastic face. Let us know how it works on the course.

Anyone heard used the igolf GPS system. Love to get a comparison between the two.

Just bought sky caddie sg3 today. I wasn't quite sure what the difference between the 2 and 3 but the kid at the golf shop said it had a bigger screen and that was good enough for me. Plus there was only a 20.00 difference btw the two so I opted for the 3. Will use on New Year's and see how it works.

It worked well. It gave yardage to layup areas, to greenside bunkers as well as distances to all parts of the green. It did not help my score in any way(nothing would have helped that day!). I do like the fact that you can measure how far you hit the ball. Overall, I like it but I don't know if I would go out and purchase it for myself. I think it would be better for me to use while walking instead of riding.

That looks like it's going to fit like a glove. but here's another one with a heftier carabiner type hook is one a newer version?

Look under accessories for the Magellan Explorist series.
The Explorist series & the SG3/SG4 are the same box.

Is the SG3/4 made by Magellan..this picture is identical to what the SG3 looks like..even the button configurations are way too similar and the little emblem at the top.

It looks like the same exact unit to me. I guess maybe skygolf outsourced the production to them. When i turn on my SG4 there is a magellan screen that loads up at the beginning.

Dose anyone know why some courses have different star ratings? At Cog Hill 2 of the courses are 3 star and the other 2 are 4 star.

I got my SG-4 12/15/06 but had not been aware of the "Gilsson MEN - Neoprene case for eXplorist series" until a few minutes ago. I just ordered one over the internet. I had been carrying the SG-4 around the course/s in a plastic freezer bag, so when the neoprene case gets delivered, it will be a big step forward for me.

      Day 42, June 15.  Played 18 today.  Shot 86, no birdies.  Played the par-3s in +2 and par-5s in +1 (there are only three).  Played the 11 par-4s in a total of +12, three triples and only two pars.  One of those triples was a 4-putt (in my defense, it started at the collar, it's a very long par-4 that required driver 4-wood, and the first putt was from 66').   I haven't calculated strokes gained yet for the round and I'm very very curious.

      Driver might be out of the bag indefinitely. All I got for success on camera and ball flight is like 50% swing speed. Anything more and it’s all over the place and strike is all over the clubface.  I got no athleticism/flow right now with what I want to do. It’s too dangerous for me because the swing will just get too long and unstable at P4. It’s very robotic feeling right now.
