What all do you track about your game?  As I look towards 2011 and what I want to accomplish I began thinking about what stats to keep track of, and how to keep track of them all.

Obviously I could get as broad or specific as I'd like, but with each layer of information I begin to track it becomes harder and harder to track and takes up more time on the course.

I guess what I'm looking for is the most efficient way to gather the most amount of information about my game so I can try to learn as much as possible about what I need to improve.  Thanks for your input.

During the round I keep track of putts fairways and greens hit.

Putts - put in the box under my score

Fairway hit - check in the upper left corner of the putts box

Green hit - check in the upper right corner of the putts box

I know some people who keep a lot more stats but this is all I do and find it to help.  If you wanted more information you could replace a check with an arrow if you missed a fairway/green.  The arrow could represent the direction you missed (left arrow = missed fairway left).

Also, it might be good to try and remember your round.  If I wanted, I could go through my round after and keep track of more specific things like up/downs, sand saves, scrambling etc.  I just wouldn't like to do that on course.

Waiting for summer...

Check out Scorecard... great program...

You just gotta keep a few stats during your round (score, fairways, greens, putts, distance of first putt, up and downs, and sand saves) and it gives you a whole bunch of stats back.

I use oobGolf for my iPhone. Keeps score along with many other stats that are uploadable to their site for future viewing. Also has built in gps that is pretty accurate. Great app if you ask me.

Hmm... Very interesting.  I like some of the ideas from scorecard.  It should give me enough information to at least get a pretty good handle on things.  Thanks for the info guys

If you are a player that practices, hits the range or putting green a lot, stat tracking can be immensely helpful.  I started keeping track of fairways hit and missed as well as what direction and what club.  Did the same with irons (hit/miss green and if I missed where).  Ups and downs, sand saves, penalties and of course putts (both per GIR and total).  This way, when I hit the range, I can see what my problem areas are.  Its easy to hit 50% of the fairways and say thats your problem.  But if you see 37 putts on the card, thats a much bigger issue and maybe easier to fix and drop a few shots as opposed to hitting 1 or 2 extra fairways.

never kept track of anything other than score and at the end of the round the card gets thrown away

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
