Wouldn't saying the 'puttee' suggest that you're being putted by the 'putter'?

Anyway... In looking for a putter, please don't buy the one that rolls into the golf store's holes more. The putting surfaces could be funneled to the hole. Just hit the one that feels and sounds the way you think a putter should feel and sound.

Some people like a certain click when they hit a ball (be it extra clicky or muffled). Same goes with the feel.. some want to feel the impact, others want it to be like hitting the ball with a marshmallow.

Just practice with lots of different ones.

I saw one of the ugliest putters ever (some Nike one.. you'll know which one it is when you see it) and it felt extremely balanced. I was impressed... but not enough to let it come anywhere near my bag with its fugliness.

Happy hunting.

I just bought an Odyssey Teron after testing out a few different models. I'm a new golfer and these were the things that i noticed in my putter selection.

First, weight of head. I like the head to be heavier then blade types. It gives me an easier 'pendulum' swing and consistent follow-through.

Second, i like the while lines on the 3 areas of the Teron. It makes it easier to align the ball (aim) and gives you the 'white streak' effect when you do your back/forward swing. Helped me with alignment and aim. In practice, the ball was going where i wanted it to go more then the other clubs.

Third, I like the feel of the ball impact. Its not a 'ping' or a 'dud'. It has enough of feel where you can know, by impact, how far the ball will go. I don't know if i'm describing this right. If i am putting 30 ft or 10 fit, there is a certain 'impact' the ball makes. One is more obviously with the lengthier distance, but you can kind of feel what a 30 ft putt and a 10ft putt is like with this putter. I couldn't feel this with the TaylorMade Spider while the Nike Everclear was 'too light'. Teron seemed to be just right.

I just purchased a Guerin Rife and here's the reason over my other putter:

1.  The Guerin Rife is a center shafted model.  My old putter was a heel shafted putter.  The center shaft is easier for me to align and strike with consistency.

2.  The Guerin Rife has a number of alignment aids.  There is a horizonal white line on the top of the heel section running back from the head to the heel, there is also a vertical white slot on the back of the head.  You align the vertical slot with the horizonal line and you are good to go.  Its a beautiful thing!!

3.  The Guerin Rife does not have an insert in the face.  It makes a beautiful feel and sound when you strike it well.

4.  The Guerin Rife has adjustable weights in the rear of the head.  2 weights of 3 different sizes.  I love the heaviest weights, which seem to reduce the amount of force needed for distance.

5.  The Guerin Rife has a lie adjustable shaft.  Comes with a simple device that allows you to change the lie to fit YOU!!  I've adjusted the lie a few times to fit my setup.  It works wonders when the head of the putter is flat on the ground every single time and the alignment line and slot are easy to align.

6.  The Guerin Rife appears to have more loft then my old putter.  Makes a nice swing arc that puts topspin on the ball and seems to roll the ball more consistantly.

I have an old Wilson brass head mallet. While I learned to put with it, it had no alignment markings leaving you to determine the sweet spot on your own.

The problem with it is it is soft metal.  After a few seasons in the bag it was so full of scars that I think it affected my putting line.  Today I use steel or steel with polymer

inserts and I keep the putter separate from the other clubs to eliminate chatter.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

    • Sorry, I will disagree. You got a penalty because you hit it somewhere and didn't want to play it from there. Bunkers are not the general area. If you had hit it into temporary water in the general area, you'd be entitled to relief. You hit it into a hazard, a bunker. Why should you get free relief when you hit it into a bunker? If someone else hit it into a different part of the bunker, without water, they'd not get a drop for free out of the bunker. Heck, it'd cost them two strokes if they didn't have an ACC and wanted to drop it out of the bunker.
    • I love golf, but we have some really dumb rules. Like this one, you get a penalty stroke because it rained.
    • No. If there was a place no closer to the hole that afforded some relief, you could have dropped there. If you were truly as far away from the hole as you could, in the "back" of the bunker, then… your options were basically to play it as it lies (lied? lay?) or take the penalty stroke and drop behind the bunker (keeping the point where the ball was between your drop and the hole).
    • Day 121 - Had a tournament today, not my best. I was hitting everything off the heel.
    • Day 4 (5 May 24) - mirror work focused on “feel of weight” transfer onto lead foot.  Continued work to develop trust in lead foot being able to handle full weight pressure…
