virtual golf simulators

Hey guys I've been looking into buying a high end virtual golf simulator. I was wondering if anyone here has one set up in their house or have ever used one in an indoor golf center-- to those of you... was it fun? was it accurate? could you tell me a little bit about your experience?

I've used a lot of golf simulators at stores and other places and generally, they seem accurate with general direction.  I seem to remember hearing that most take 10% of the total distance off for some reason, don't know if its true though.  But, determining the actual spin of the golf ball when hit could differ a lot based on what kind of simulator.  Prolly goes as predicted in that the more expensive you go, the better they are more likely to be.  I think getting one might be a cool idea, but I'd definitely have to go with the ones that are more expensive to get the best results, because I wouldn't buy one unless I knew it would work well.  Plus, if you like the winter, which I do, and still want to golf, it beats going to an indoor range or heated outdoor range.

I toured aboutGolf and used their simulators. They were not bad, though some of the data was a little goofy... What's your budget?

Even living in So Cal, where I can golf year round, my own golf simulator at home would be great.  I can just play for an hour, be around the house still, play at night, etc...   The only way I'd do it though is if I had the first class setup.

Do a search for simulators one this site.  I know I've read about a couple people that have already done it and have reviews.  I do think they're pricey enough that people seem shy about stating how much they paid (in case their ex-wife's lawyer finds out or something ).   If I were to guess though, I think its in the neighborhood of 10K.

It would be awesome, I totally agree. As much as I'd love to have one though, all it would do is lead to embarrassing pictures of myself on the Internet, dressed in boxers and golf shoes. On the upside, I could actually play golf in my boxers !!!! Life would be great.

I am sure they are pretty accurate. the simulators at roger dunn seem to be a little on the plus yardage side. a good way to sell clubs I guess. but, getting one to put in my house would be amazing. I don't know about playing in my boxers like controljunkie. haha.

also, being able to play any golf course at any time, now that would be awesome.

Ive used golf simulators at Golf Galaxy before when trying out new clubs and theyre fun, but Im not convinced that they are accurate or give you much of an idea of how you would do in the real world.

I mean, if I were to get an ace on a simulator its not like I would brag to my buddies about it.

i dont see myself wanting to spend more than 10k on this, but looking at some of the pics on www.hdgolf.com im sure ill have to spend more than that lol

if im gonna get one of these things its going to be the best one or nothing at all. im not going to waste my money on something i dont absolutely love
