  1. 1. On a scale of 1-10, 1 being lightest and 10 being firmest, how tightly do you grip the club on a full swing?

I don't really know how to say what I'm about to ask, but here goes my best effort. What is the difference (in terms of common positive or problematic effects) between how hard you squeeze as opposed to pressure brought on by establishing a very firm, snug orientation of your hands and overall grip on the club? For example, I can go up and sqeeze the bloody hell out of the handle with all fingers on both hands, or I can make a grip where, with my left thumb under the pad of my right hand (close to lifeline I guess), the handle is pretty much secured so that I feel as if I could make a comfortable full swing with only my thumb and forefinger of left hand and middle finger of my right hand on the club (all other fingers actually off the handle). Does that explain what I'm trying to ask correctly? The reason I ask is a precursor to asking which one is better and why.

Not quite sure if I understand your question. There is no pressure until it is applied. A perfect grip won't hold the club tight, it just puts the grip in a good spot in your hands. You do have to apply pressure in order to hold onto the club when swinging.

Yeah, I figured I was being confusing there.

Of course you have to apply pressure to hold on to the club when swinging. What I was trying to describe above is that I can form a grip where I can basically keep enough pressure using only three fingers (left thumb and forefinger, right middle finger)  along with the pad of my right hand , and make a full swing. I guess what I'm getting at is that's where I feel the pressure points are in my hands, and though I wouldn't normally swing with only those fingers on the club, there is enough pressure there to keep it secured without even really having to squeeze very hard.

Where I'm confused is that in the original post, he said his goal was an 8, though realistically he's probably only a 7, but of course, like many others I had always been told/read/heard the myth referred to here

Quote:
It's a myth that you can't learn to grip the club in such a manner and that your forearms will tighten when you grip a club more firmly.

So what I'm getting at is, in this post, are we talking about pressure on a scale from 1-10, but that pressure can come in a couple different forms, at least in my mind. One of which is squeezing more with all fingers, hands, etc, and the other would be the way I described above in that the handle just sort of "fits" well and securely without having to squeeze very much, yet I feel there's enough pressure to keep it well in control.

That all leads to my question is would it be better for me to be applying as much pressure as possible with all fingers versus the way I described?

My grip pressure is about a 7.  It used to be a 9 but Ive learned to not deathgrip the club so much.

I would have to say around a 6.5-7. I've played around with my grip to see the results and i find that i need a grip that is just firm enough the the club doesn't feel loose and gets away from me but not firm enough that it requires a lot thought to keep the grip.
