I currently have the 08 callaway big bertha i-brid set which has helped me out a bunch but i am always looking to improve and i have been lookin at these two iron sets does anyone have any experience with them. i actually hit them both at dicks into a net gave the edge to the x-24's which seemed a little lighter but hard to make a decision based on hitting into the net. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Last summer I bought some Nike pro combo irons and thought I could hit them. Well, I was completely wrong. I ended up getting the X-24's and love them. The mishits fly far and the distance on them is great. I probably won't be getting a new set of irons for a long time. I feel like these clubs can take me a long way with my game. I've had nothing  but good experiences so far with them.

I believe you Callaway makes amazing stuff especially irons they did feel great when i hit them at Dick's. Does the finish wear off of the irons quickly?

I never demo'd the X-24's but I did just buy the Diablo Edges over the winter and got to try them out this weekend.  I was using X-12's before which I didn't hit bad, but they gifted to me, and didn't have the right shaft for me.  My swing was pretty rusty this weekend, but when I did hit the ball solid with the Diablo Edges, I noticed the trajectory was higher, and the distances were about one club longer than the X-12's.  I went with steel shafts which makes them feel heavier than my graphite shafted X-12's, but I prefer it since I had issues with the weight difference between the X-12's and my wedges.

I mentioned this in another post, but since you're looking at the X-24's you might want to try out the Mizuno JPX-800's too, I really liked them, and it was a tough call between them and the Diablo Edges.  If I don't keep the Edges, I'd pick up the Mizuno's.

I will take that into consideration i think im going to hit all three this weekend in my golf league. It's indoors on a simulator so i think it will be a good time to experiment with both callaways and i will give the mizunos a wack. I just think i would get a little more forgiveness from the callaways but i will give them a wack.

The finish hasn't worn off at all. Scratches might be more noticeable compared to a chrome/silver colored iron. For some reason, it looked like I was hitting rocks with my nine iron, so the scratches are really evident. I'll try and get a picture tonight to show you what I mean.

Here are some pics I took.

There are some ball marks on top of the scratches from being at the range the other day. The scratches are pretty obvious when you are looking at the club. I don't even know how I got so many scratches on this club. Geez.

Hope this helps!

WOW stop hitting rocks dude.  And you need a swing adjustment, unless u like hitting the ball on the toe of the club?  consistent yes, I just stand close to the ball, say half inch?

Wow that looks bad i can't believe how scratched they got. Try to research for a polish for your irons i don't know if they make it for your type of finish but i use flitz it is awesome. But to stay on topic i guess it really isnt how they look it's how they feel and they do feel nice i have to admit they are nice and light which should give you a couple more mph on the swing speed but i need to hit them again on sat in my league.Thx for the pics dude.

just make sure you read it online and make sure you can use it on your clubs it works great. It doesn't remove deep scratches but makes them shine and removes light scratches.

The issue could also be that the clubs are a bit to upright as well.  You may want to hit a few off the lie board.  If too upright, your swing will groove into a toe shot.

I have read on several forums that the finish does indeed wear off very quickly.  I looked at a brand new set at a local store that were on the rack, never hit.  The finish was already wearing just from people handling the clubs.  They look good brand new, but again, I researched these irons a little while ago, and one of the universal points that always came up was issues with how quickly the finish wears off.

Yeah that is what worries me i dont want my 600 dollar irons to look faded half way thru the season. But i comes down to performance i guess if your smashing them you can get over the finish.

I have the 08 big berthas and in my golf digest book they say they are even better and more forgiving then my clubs which is a scary thing.

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
