So... I wonder if anybdy else does this or thinks this is not a good idea.

I use a strong grip for my driver and woods, (about 2.5 knuckles visible from the top) and a neutral grip for everything else. I mostly hit well, but every now and then I hit a drive then a second shot with an iron and carry some of my stronger grip to that club causing me to hook. Is this definetely a bad idea? should I think of trying to stick with a unique grip and setup?

Thank you for your replies!

I kinda do the same, I notice my grip is a little stronger on my driver.  I think it has to do with the stiff shaft on my driver causes it to fade a little more, so I grip it stronger.  My irons have a regular flex, and I don't grip them as strong.

are your shafts different on your irons than on your driver?

Yep.  I have an extremely strong grip on my driver.  Neutral with my woods/hybrid because if I go strong at all, i get big, uncontrollable hooks.  I'm working on getting my iron grips closer to neutral, but its still a little strong.

I never though of it, but now that itchin mentions it, my driver and irons are stiff, and my wood/hybrid are regular.

Actually I do have different shafts. My driver has a stiff shaft. My irons have regular flex graphite shafts. I dont think I will ever grip my irons like I grip my driver but the only way I have found to have a stronger grip with my irons is by setting up with my hands ahead of the club head (what some call a forward club angle) but it feels very awkward.

Not sure I want to even try gripping my driver more neutral cause I am carrying about 280 very consistently in the fairway with my current grip and setup.

I wouldn't change a thing then if you're hitting that long consistently.  Have you ever gotten your swing speed tested?
