was warming up at the range before my round..hitting them great!..lasers..just good shots..nice compression..the whole 9 yards, right..than all of a sudden!!

SHANK!!..followed by another SHANK!! Followed by 10 more shanks..OMG! Followed by low slices.. Obviously wrecked me during our round..

why the heck does this happen?!?!

I was a train wreck the front but managed to get my swing back on the back..

..I'll never practice before I play again.

Such a huge part of the golf swing is mental. You cant let the bad swings get in your head.

I have the same problem on the tee sometimes. The minute I let the thought of making a bad swing creep into my head, I almost always shank it.

One of the first things my father taught me was pre round was warmup only. If you want to practice you do it after the round. Find a good warmup routine and stick to it. Never practice full swings prior to a round.

I agree. I play in a mens league & the practice facility is free before each round for members. At the beginning i used to go and hit a bucket of balls, full out, go do some pitching & chipping, then about an hour of putting. I was tired and golfing the #$*@s! Now, I loosen up, with a weighted club, hit a couple of balls, and practice my putting before each round. It actually relaxes me now, and i feel more relaxed & prepared on the first tee.

Maverick,

Have a warm-up routine and most importantly, stick with it! If I have time to warm up, I always start by stretching. Then going through my whole pre-shot routine, I hit five full sand wedges, from there I hit three full shots with either the odd or even numbered clubs in my bag. Then three drivers. That's maybe 30 total swings and I can do it in less than 20 minutes. Go hit a few putts and you're ready to go. Just like it's important to have a consistent pre-shot routine, having a consistent warm up routine is also very important.

wow..so you guys have a pre-game routine..I guess I shouldn't warm-up/practice at all then since that's the norm..lol wait a minute..no full swings on the warm up..hmm..

yeah..I was hitting them great..then all of a sudden the swing disappeared..anyway..I need to go to the range and just remember to get the swing back..it's happend before and usually after a few days without playing I get "reset"..if this makes sense.

I agree with not hitting a bucket beforeheand.

I like to just putt on the practice green for a while to calm down. Then I hit some small (greenside) chips to get the feel of the grass on that course that day.

The more I'm calm, the better I do all around on the course.
