Hello,

I'm new to the forum, but I've been reading the reviews when I wanted to purchase my set.

I started golfing around 8 months ago and I upgraded from R9 TP irons to

Mizuno MP68 and will never go back .

So until about 1 month ago my striking has been very inconsistent and I hit somewhere between a 76 - 87 and even a 90+ on very bad days full of strong wind.

Now I'm much more consistent.

A little about my results:

1. I can now average around 280 yds and I don't hit a slice anymore.

My worst shot is a push fade. I realize that I do this when I try too hard to nail the ball as hard as I can

and I realize that my body moves forward too fast causing this type of shots.

I can control it most of the time, however, I noticed that when I'm very very tired from carrying the bag and walking

then I try to swing as fast as I can, no matter how hard I try to get the right timing and stay in balance, I hit the ball to the high right.

Q. So how can I prevent this when I'm super tired yet not sacrifice yardage by swinging slower?

2. About being a consistent scorer... I would like to be able to score in the mid to low 80s consistently now that my tee shot and irons

are quite straight and consistent.

Q.How do I make this goal? How do I strengthen my short game and putting?

For now, my short game is better than my putting.

3. My drive. I now tilt a little bit to get the ascending blow and I've been very successful at blasting my drives.

Q.  However, how do I know what is the ideal tilt to get the ideal angle of ball flight off the tee?

Well, thank you in advance!

To me 76 - 87 is EXSTREMELY impressive after 8 month of golf, i am still in this range after 8 years of golf. So whatever you are doing you should just keep practicing and try to get better. Even the pro's are inconsistent and cant control their ball flight alot of times so dont expect to hit 100% perfect all the time :)

I have to agree with this man, that's some pretty nice scoring after 8 months. Keep it up!

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

Oh, thank you. But problem is I'm inconsistent in terms of striking the ball pure as I mention above in my scoring. IE: Fat / push and bladed

So if some of you can give me advice on the 3 points above, that'd be great.

Also one more question:

. I notice that on the top of my back swing, I feel the coil and my body (smaller circle) , tend to get ahead of my arms, causing a toe shot / push and even fat shots.

So what I do now is try to focus on my arms (bigger circle) on the downswing. But it can be rather tough at times when I'm impatient and my body gets ahead again.

Q: Should I keep practicing to focus more on my arms at the start of the downswing to catch up with the body so that the timing is right ?

Any other advice is appreciated.

It would be great to see video.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Sorry, I don't have a video camera right now, besides, these miss hits usually happen when I'm getting tired, yet I try to bang it still. So it's not what I usually do when I'm fresh and happy ^^

I just got back from 13 holes today... (cold 25mph wind)

I actually manage to answer some of the questions above myself.

But it'd be great if more experienced players can help me with tips a little?

1. My drives today were: 272yds, 261yds, 326yds, 283yds, 298yds.

I average around 270-280 usually, so I wonder, how can I hit above that like the 326 and 298 yarder?

What was it that made golfers able to do it? I'm not a big guy, only 5'9 and I weigh around 160.

2. I really need help with my 3Wood consistency... what should I focus on? Right now I just try to remain as still as possible... the head that is.

3. Is David leadbetter videos good to learn and strengthen my short game around the green from 35ft and in?

Thank you in advance.

    • Great interview.  Funny he mentioned the first hole double settling him down.. some dude mentioned this when it happened, pretty observant 😂 As for the complicated analysis, I wasn’t planning on doing that, but kinda got sucked in and diving deeper.  Yup… just plain nervous.  You could see it in his eyes coming off 13, he was nervous and a bit shell shocked… oh no here we go.
    • That it’s difficult is obvious, but part of what makes it difficult is impossible to see. The mental game. Some players thrive under pressure, while others crumble completely. Having the mentality to win major events is no good if you don’t have the game for it and having the game may not be enough if the nerves and stress cause too much trouble when the heat is on. Rory put a lot of pressure and expectations on himself, but it surely doesn’t help with all the media attention around his lack of major wins the last decade. He said in the interview that having all those legends of the game (Tiger, Jack etc.) saying he will win it one day just added to the pressure. They probably meant for those to be words of encouragement, while they had a negative effect on Rory. Ever since Tiger dominated, new promising players were “the next Tiger”. Rory has as good a game when he’s on, but Tiger was at a different level, over a long period of time. Anyone would be nervous in Rory’s shoes last week. How it would affect their game is very individual.
    • So, @klineka and @Zeph are you guys trying to imply that winning majors is difficult?  Perhaps, that's why Rory becomes the first golfer (not named Tiger Woods) in almost 60 years to win a career Grand Slam?
    • Watch his post-round interview @TommyRude. It provides good insight on what he's been struggling with. You look for answers in many places, but it may be as simple as nerves. He gets nervous in those situations and winning at Augusta has been a lifelong dream. It became an even more spectatular dream after winning the other majors and only missing The Masters for the career slam. No matter how hard you look and try to analyze everything, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that.
    • Honestly, I was so confused by their argument. I didn't really respond.   I'm not exactly sure. Start times the first two days were mentioned, and so was course layout, but neither of those made sense to me.
