Just saw a film on Golf Channel from the 1962 Masters that Arnold Palmer won.  Several times in the film they should players putting with the flagstick in unattended.  Palmer even hit the flag stick on a long putt from the green.  When did this rule change?

That change was made in 1968.  See this site for historical information on the rules.

Thanks for posting that site.  I didn't know about it, but I'm old enough to have lived through a lot of those changes.

But then again, what the hell do I know?
