The guy would hop to his ball, lean on one crutch, and hit with one arm.... just don't get it.

Drugs are bad. M'kay.

I change my swing every time I don't shoot par for the course.

Of course you don't get it. You're not on crutches.

He obviously loves the game

Hmmmm.  I probably wouldn't play on crutches if I had some sort of temporary ailment - like a broken leg or something like that.  But if I had a permanent disability that forced me to use crutches full time?  Damned right I'd be out there, doing whatever it took to play.

I played with a guy that had a birth defect (sorry if this is a politically incorrect phrase) where his fingers were barely an inch long.  He averaged 280 off the tee and shot a 76.  I told my GF about this and said how cool is that to be so good with just an inch.  She told me I was pretty good with my inch...wait, what?

I also went round recently with a guy who made the semi-finals of last year's one-armed golf world championship. Damn good player. He told me a bit about the Society Of One Armed Golfers and how it was formed after World War 1 by maimed servicemen. They were apparently inspired by Ernest Jones, a great English golfer who lost a leg in the war. The story goes that a week after getting out of hospital, he went back to his home club and shot 72 hopping around the course on one foot. Can you even imagine?

Got nothing but respect for people who don't let physical limitations get in the way of what they want to do.

Stretch.
