Yea it would be very difficult to compete with established names. I stick to big names that I can find at a discount. Good products with reputations at good prices. If you truly believe in what you are doing, go for it. But it wont be easy

Not to be redundant, but why would I pay $20 for a no name shirt with unknown quality when I can get a shirt from a well known and respected manufacturer at the same price? Its the same reason that I wouldnt get a $15 walmart brand shirt when I can find a puma shirt for just a little higher, knowing that a puma shirt will last and be worth it. And yea, I would not pay regular price for a puma nike or UA golf shirt.

No real need to respond since the thread is 2+ years old.

But if the price point was the same, best believe I'd buy from a smaller company (I can appreciate the small business aspect).  But I wouldn't count on "word of mouth" keeping food on your table.  And I wouldn't count on me never buying again if the quality wasn't there.

Regarding "you get what you pay for": This is correct from my personal experiences, I have come across a couple $9 shirts that were great the first round I wore them.  Not so much when the fabric began pulling and the button fell off.

Absolutely on both points. I completely agree with supporting and rooting for the under dog. Unfortunately, costs to manufacture goods at the "ma n' pop shop" level are typically much higher because they do not have the resources (labor force, machinery, techniques, raw resources, etc.) that the big dogs have. I cannot have my wife make me a replica of a Nike Dri-Fit for cheaper than it would cost for me to buy one from Golf Galaxy on sale for $39.99. Nor would it hold up the same after use, wear and tear, washing, etc.

In all seriousness, if you're looking for quality merchandise at lower costs, check stores like Kohls and outlet malls where seasonal apparel is sold at a fraction of the cost. Last week I was in Michigan and picked up 2 Nike Dri-Fit polos from Sports Authority in Traverse City for $24.99 each. I saw the same polos yesterday at Golf Galaxy for $59.99 each. Just a comparison and I know many of you know about the outlet stores and clearance sections in GG, GS, and SA... but for those that don't, jump on it and save your money.

We have a local IZOD store, the wife just bought me 3 really decent golf shirts for about $12 each.  And these are very nice ones.

I love IZOD sport series.  I got mine for $20 each over black friday weekend at Macy's.  Have several.  One of them I am wearing in my picture to the left.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
