Hi,

I would really appreciate some feedback on my swing. From looking at the video myself I have realised that i am taking the club away on the inside. Does anyone have any good drills to set the club off on plain?

Thanks,

Will

Think of your swing as gliding along a circle at a 45 degree angle.  When you bring the club back, you want to not bring it inside or "turn" into your backswing as your hips load for the followthrough.  Instead, the club should come back along the same line of trajectory as it sits at address.  In your backswing, the club comes very far back and nearly hits your opposite shoulder- perhaps a slowing down of the backswing and a more controlled motion may produce better control on your shots.  You do not need to "swing hard" or bring the club back hard as you are loading your hips to produce a shot of great distance, that is done with correct swing mechanics and natural followthrough motion.

This will also help your followthrough--again with the circle analogy, as you come through and impact the ball, the club should swing through in a controlled fashion along the same line as initial address and backswing.  This is what allows you to strike the ball squarely.  The club at address, backswing, and followthrough are all along the same circular trajectory.

Hope this helps!

Elbows pull apart at the top of your backswing, right elbow overflexes. Keep elbows closer together, feel more extensor action - more "pushing out" of your right arm.

    • Managed 51/41 this weekend.  Justin Thomas went 78 / 62 from round 1 to round 2. He has access to the best coaches, best technology, best gear, and plays probably every day (or close to it)... if he can have a 16 shot swing from one round to the next, who are we to expect consistency when going out 2x a week is an accomplishment (at least for me with 2 kids it is!).
