Yesterday I met with an instructor who's teaching style matched my learning style and had a very nice video analysis setup.  It was amazing to see the mistakes on the way up and the mirror image of those mistakes on the way down, crazy!

Long story short he gave me a few changes to make which immediately showed tremendous results with ball striking.  Of course this feels funny, so my question is how long take before the new swing feels comfortable?   I've committed to this so I really hope it does not take too long.

How long did it take you to feel comfortable with a new swing?

Thanks!

hmmm, depends on how you want things to feel.

For example, i need to keep the clubhead more infront of me, took me about a few weeks to figure out what feeling i liked the best and what worked for me. Mostly it was hinging the club earlier in my swing.

As for maybe getting the hands deeper, or a steeper or shallower swing plane. I would put that on flexibility more, because you trained your muscles to swing in one way, and another would stretch and strengthen muscles you wouldn't normally use. So it might take a while. But i hear a year is a good estimate for any major swing change to become solid, with out need to think about it.

It completely depends on how much you practice....it needs to become a part of your muscle memory because on the golf course you automatically revert back to what is most comfortable. Be disciplined up front with your practice and it will take you no time to make that your new swing.

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is, "as long as it takes".  Ive been going through some swing changes recently too and its taken me about a week of practicing 30 minutes per day for the changes to start to feel natural.

However, Im sure for some people it would have taken much less time for it to feel natural and others much more time.  Theres to many variables and x-factors to say how long it will take.

Thanks for the replies.  My goal is to do either practice or playing every day for 2 weeks until my next lesson.  My hope is at the next lesson these changes are more natural and the instructor can make some new suggestions changes and move on to the downswing corrections.

Since you asked, it took one practice session.  Then I did a short practice the next day and played 18 with great success.  I was a 25 hcp before I made those swing changes.
