Ok, I searched here and only came across a post with a similar but not completely the same issue.

I am a right handed golfer and the "birdie finger" (the longest) on my right hand gets a terrible blister on it.  It appears to be caused by the "ring finger" putting pressure on it during the swing.  It happens every time I play, some rounds worse than others.  I have used band-aids, tape, and mole skin type products and nothing seems to help.  I also have changed from an interlocking grip to overlap and that has not helped either.  I have even tried "removing" the finger from the grip altogether... that just seems to make the club a bit unstable.

I know this is a strange question, but has anyone else had this happen?  And how did you solve it?  I really do not want to wear two gloves... I am not Tommy Gainey

Mine used to do it.  How long has it been happening?  It should toughen up and stop blistering....that is what mine did.  Now I just get a blister on my ring finger, right in the middle.

Well, it has happened every time this season... so that is about 8 rounds.  It also gets sore at range sessions, but I normally head over to the putting green before it gets blistered.  As I have mentioned in a few other posts, I am just coming back from a 3 year layoff but I remember it doing it then too.  Although I was able to keep it at bay with tape or a band-aid.  This season the tape or bandage does little to stop it.  Thanks for the reply and hopefully it will toughen up.  I guess my IT department hands need to toughen up.

My guess would be grip pressure.  I used to get blisters when I was younger when I didnt play much, but I also would swing WAY to hard which caused me to over grip the club and cause blisters.

I play glove free on both hands and never have had a problem with blisters. I don't understand why your fingers should be rubbing against each other like that at all. Post a picture of your typical grip.

I have a wierd looking finger, I broke it twice playing baseball.  I tape it regularly to prevent developing a huge callus which drys out and cracks.  I have noticed that Tiger always has one finger taped, so I would just tape it every time you practice and play and don't worry about it.  Of course I am assuming you have checked with someone to make sure your grip, other than pressure is good.

i'm not quite sure how you can tape them and still get blisters. have you heard of second skin? you can buy it pretty cheap at the drug store and cut them to the size you need. it's silicone made to feel like real skin. i used it all the time back in high school and college on my feet and it works wonders.

Last night I went to the range to figure out the blister issue.  It is my birdie finger getting pressed against the knuckle on my left pointer finger.  So I casually asked the assistant pro at the club about it.  He said that he sees it all the time.  He says the grip pressure looked fine, but for me to make sure that I was not gripping harder in my downswing.  Mainly he showed me something odd that I did not know I was doing.  It just felt natural to me.  For some reason this season I have been using a overlap with my right pinkie "in the slot" and right ring finger over the left pointer finger.  When I only overlap the right pinkie finger "in the slot" the pressure is put on my right ring finger (instead of the birdie finger).  I do have pointy knuckles but who knew I could "dig" into my own skin with them.

After making the grip change to the "correct" overlap things are much better, but still not totally gone.  Thanks for the input and I will look into second skin until I can toughen the area up.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
