What is the usage of 'skins' in this forum?

Hey guys, I'm rather new on this website. So two part question, I see these 'skins' on the profile page and i would like to know how to use them? also, since I've been looking through some of the forum posts, it shows the persons set of clubs in they're bag, but mine doesn't? does it take time for it to happen? thanks guys!

have fun on the golf course! score low right?

Skins are reputation. When someone who already has over (I believe the number is) 12 skins gives you a thumbs up, you get a skin yourself. Furthermore, if you see a post that you believe is particularly informative, or well-written, or helpful, give their post a thumbs up.

Also, you can search "when signature" and you'll see when you get a signature. Basically, 10 posts spaced 7 days apart. Or maybe 7 posts spaced 10 days apart, but I think it's the former.
