I am looking at getting one of these clubs for the bag i'm a weekend golfer just looking to shave a few strokes. Whats the diffrece between a rescue club and a hybrid. I have been looking in the local shop and on ebay and see a lot of diffrent types. Have been looking at a TM burner rescue, callaway diablo hybrid, and have found a lot of TM raylors on line just wondering what would be a good chioce.

a rescue club and a hybrid are the same thing, different companies have chosen one or the other, and stuck with the name. I think right now taylor made and maybe one other company use the name "rescue", while most others use "hybrid".

Besides company preferences, history plays a role. Rescue clubs (or trouble clubs) was the name given to the cleek and the bulldog of the early 1900s, and clubs made by the Standard Company in the 1930s. Back in the 1970s and 1980s, you heard about rescue clubs or utility clubs such as the Stan Thomson Ginty or the original TM Raylor . (Curious note: Ginty looked like the 2008 revised Raylor, and the original Raylors actually had rails on the bottom)

The term hybrid is a 21st century golf term. I probably heard it first around 2005 (?? anybody know when term first showed up??)
