So my grip was really weak and I have made it strong in the past couple of days and I have noticed a big difference. I have already gained probably 10 yards (when I hit it straight). Now my problem is that 70% of my shots are left of my target and about 95% of those shots also have a draw on it causing it to go more left. So that tells me I'm hitting the outside part of the ball with a closed club face. The reason I am doing that is because of my old swing and my old grip which I'm trying to get rid of. So that leaves us with 30%. With that 30% I would say I hit 20% straight and the other 10% I hit a block (which is kinda okay right now imo) So with all that said I need to start hitting the inside part of ball and in order to do that I need to start my downswing more on plane or I need to feel like its really inside. But that leads us into my question.

I need some help/tip on how to get my downswing started on plane or inside...I have been trying to just let my hands drop at the top and then swing through and that seems to help but when I try hit it a little harder it goes out the window...also its a lot easier to do with my shorter clubs but when I get to about my 6 iron I starting pulling it more again.

So any tips or drills on how to get the club started down the correct path or even feel like its coming inside would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What I noticed on my grip was not weak or strong but as I go back my right hand (stronger hand) tends to rotate counterclockwise due to my lack or flexibility (or lack of talent) and that puts the shaft across the line at top which leads to a pull draw rather than a push draw.

I try to focus on keeping the palms facing each other at top, seems to work, if only one day (WOOD).

Try opening your stance a little bit. Start by just opening your front foot. If that doesn't get you there move it backwards a little bit as well

watch your shoulder rotation.  Just from personal knowledge..I will hit pull after pull when I open my shoulders up too much, too early and come across the ball.  In my practice swing I really try to feel my shoulders being square at impact and this helps me.

Could be something to try before you get more complex.  Usually flailing the shoulders open leads to an OTT swing for me so...

You might have over did it.

I like the left hand just right of center on the golf club, and i like the right hand with the V ranging from the right shoulder to the right ear. I vary it dependin on the type of shot i want to play. If i want to hit a cut i will weaken it, if i want to hit a draw or get a few more yards on a drive i will strengthen it a tad. But make sure that the grip is in the fingers, not the palm of the right hand, you do not want that hand under the club.

If its starting left and going left, your swing is probably a bit outside-in. But thats just a guess.

thanks for the help guys I will def. try out the tips...I'm just so use to my weak grip and when I come down into the impact zone my hands rotate back to my old weak grip causing the face to close and then its a big hook or pull hook so if I can keep my wrist cocked longer I think I hit it straighter...this is so hard to do

I have been playing with my grip over the past while and have realized that the grip works in conjunction with how flat your left wrist (right handed) is at the top of your back swing. If you play with a strong grip and have flat or bowed wrist at the top its almost inevitable that you will draw or hook the ball. I would look at your wrist at the top of your back swing. If its flat then try going to a bit more neutral grip. Its easier to change your grip than wrist cock in your back swing. But only change one at a time, play with it at the range and see what works for you.

Driver- Titleist 910 D3 9.5

3 Wood- Burner 15 degree
Irons- Slingshot 4I-AW
Hybrid- CPR 3 22 degree
Putter- White Hot XG 8

thanks guys...actually what I have found out from a friend of mine and myself actually is that my swing was too long for one...meaning when my shoulders stopped turning my arms kept going causing a bunch of wasted motion so my body was getting well ahead of my hands causing pulls and hooks...I shortened up my swing (or so it felt like) and was hitting the ball a ton better...the other thing was my driver swing was way to flat and I couldnt really get a feeling for getting to not to be flat so any tips on getting my swing not to be so flat?

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family

We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
